Spirea is a perennial plant known for its flowers. They are small, but there are a lot of them during the flowering period. The flower is unpretentious and frost-resistant. All spireas are divided into spring-flowering and summer-flowering. In the former, the flowering period does not last long – about 20 days. In the latter, it lasts up to 6 weeks. There are a large number of spirea varieties, many of which are suitable for the climate of Russia.
First, let’s take a look at what spring-flowering varieties are. Basically, they all exceed the 1 meter mark in height. Varieties that bloom in spring are distinguished by the short duration of this period. It lasts only 15-25 days.
Spring types of spirea:
- “Oak-leaved”. Differs in early flowering, already in May, a large number of white flowers are observed on the bush. It is prone to strong overgrowth, so it is advisable to prune in the summer.
- “Nipponskaya”. Great for decorating hedges. The flowers are yellow-green or white. It reaches a height of 1,5-2 meters. The flowering period begins in May and ends in mid-June.
- “Leaky”. Similar to cherry blossoms. Differs in abundant flowering and beautiful white flowers. Just like the previous species, it begins to bloom in May. It differs in that it does not tolerate a drop in temperature so well. But she takes one of the first places in the decoration of the site.
These varieties are distinguished by the most pronounced decorative properties. Summer residents often use them to decorate their site, and during the flowering period they attract attention.
Low varieties generally belong to the summer flowering species. It includes varieties such as:
- “Berezolistnaya”. Height – about 70 centimeters. It got this name because of the similarity of its leaves with birch leaves. The flowering period begins in June and ends in August. The flowers are white or pink.
- Little Princesses. The height is also no higher than 70 centimeters. The flowers are pink or red. The flowering period begins in late June and lasts until August.
- Crispa. The height reaches no more than 50 centimeters. Inflorescences are pink-lilac. Flowering begins in June.
- Boomalda. Its height is no more than 75 centimeters. Inflorescences are pink. The growing season lasts almost all summer.
In addition to those listed above, there are also a large number of shrubs, reaching from 40 to 90 centimeters in height.
Thanks to such a variety of varieties, which differ in color of inflorescences, size and shape, each person will be able to choose a spirea for his site to his taste. She will dilute the greenery of the site with bright colors and will attract all the attention.
