Spirea: planting and care

Spirea is an abundantly flowering shrub that is unpretentious. Some people compare spirea with cherries. There are many species of this shrub. They differ in size: some can reach 2 meters, while others reach 20 centimeters in height. Also, the species differ in flowering time: some bloom in spring, others in summer.

This plant can be grown in your summer cottage, observing some rules.

For planting spirea and caring for it, it is best to mix peat, sand and leafy soil.

The planting process is simple:

  • When buying spirea seedlings, pay attention to their quality.
  • Planting is best done either in autumn or early spring.
  • For planting, choose a sunny location on the site.
  • Choose a breathable soil.

After observing these rules, you can proceed to the planting itself.

The planting process includes several stages:

  1. The planting hole should be deep enough, about 50 centimeters.
  2. At the bottom of the hole, provide drainage for the plant.
  3. Mix the soil with fertilizer, peat and sand.
  4. Place the seedling in the ground.
  5. Fill the spirea roots halfway, and then pour a bucket of water into the hole.
  6. Fill the hole completely.
  7. Water the seedling and mulch.

By following these steps correctly, you will help the seedling adapt to its new location and increase its chances of successful adaptation.

Spirea care, like planting, is simple, but requires attention. For proper care, you need to follow some rules:

  1. Provide the plant with regular watering, especially during the flowering period.
  2. Build a shelter for the spirea for the winter.
  3. Weed nearby and remove weeds.
  4. Loosen the soil from time to time so that it better allows oxygen to flow to the roots.
  5. Mulch the roots to keep the soil moist.
  6. Provide top dressing in the spring. Use nitrogen or phosphorus complexes of fertilizers.
  7. Prune. This is done to rejuvenate the shrub. Remove any old, dry, or diseased branches.

If you follow the rules of care, then the shrub will not hurt, and you will not have much trouble with it. And by following these rules, you will enjoy the flowering of the plant every summer.

Planting and caring for a spirea outdoors is not difficult, but requires adherence to the care steps and your attention. To some, this shrub resembles a cherry, and to someone a bride. In any case, you will attract people’s attention by growing it on your site. And the large number of varieties ensures that you find the right one.
