Catching pike on a spinning rod is the most common type of predator fishing, a sensible form and correctly selected baits will definitely lure it.

Is it possible to catch pike on an ultralight?

Spinning fishing for a predator, especially pike, of trophy size is more common on medium-sized rods, where the minimum casting weight starts from 5 g. The heavy baits used will attract a toothy predator, but not always. Sometimes she shows character and only takes on small and easy options. How to drop them?

This is where ultralight comes to the rescue, which some undeservedly consider only perch. Anglers with experience have long been accustomed to fishing with light tackle, and the result of their efforts is often individuals from 2 kg or more. In their opinion, a fishing line with a diameter of 0,14 mm can easily withstand a kilogram trophy, and 0,2 mm can also pull out larger specimens. Of course, this requires skill and certain skills, but the pleasure of the process will block all the nuances.

Features of catching

For a very long time, anglers have noticed that the capture of a predator does not always occur on large and heavy baits. Even 30 years ago, casting small baits over considerable distances was problematic, it was possible to place it as far as possible from the shore by 1,5-2 m. the brainchild of ultralight.

Pike on this type of spinning is also caught and even successfully, for a successful outcome, you should take into account the time of year:

A toothy predator can completely refuse the baits offered to her by ultralight, there are several explanations for this:

• the water temperature in the reservoir is less than +8 degrees;
• during sudden changes in temperature;
• with fish diseases;
• immediately after spawning.

In other cases, it is worth experimenting more with baits and wiring methods.

Baits

Today, you can pick up a wide variety of baits to catch a toothy inhabitant of reservoirs, each will have its own characteristics, but they will be catchy for sure. A pike on an ultralight will respond well if it is used to attract:

• silicone, the most catchy options are up to 3 cm long, and the color scheme is very diverse;
• spinners, models from Mepps are especially appreciated, ranging from No. 00 to No. 2;
• they also catch on wobblers, minnows and rolls up to 3,5 cm long will be excellent types of bait not only for pike.

Recently, microoscillations with one hook have become more and more popular, they are used to catch various trophies.

Anglers with experience know that ultralight rigs are the most sensitive, and you can assemble them yourself without any problems. First, of course, it is worth figuring out exactly how to choose the components so as not to lose its “tenderness”.

Form

In stores, you can find ultralights from 1,6 m long to 2,4 m. They choose this parameter starting from the reservoir, or rather its banks, the more bushes and trees there, the shorter the rod should be.

If you choose according to the material, then it is better to give preference to carbon fiber or composite, fiberglass will have a decent weight and after a few hours of active work, the angler’s hand will get very tired.

There are also often discussions about the system, it is worth choosing according to the following parameters:

• fast will help to make long casts;
• the average is considered universal;
• slow is used to extract trophies using wobblers.

Coil

The rod itself will be light and sensitive, but it is easy to spoil it with a heavy coil. For such forms, it is best to use models of the inertialess type with a metal spool, size 500-1500.

Basis

Many people prefer to use monofilament fishing line with a diameter of up to 0,2 mm from well-known brands to collect gear. This version of the foundation has proven itself very well over the years. However, now more and more spinners are switching to braided cords, which, with a smaller diameter, have higher breaking rates. With a cord, the tackle is lighter, thinner, but durable.

Before winding the cord, it must be thoroughly wetted.

Not everyone and not always uses leashes for ultralight pike, most often, in order not to make them heavier, they simply tie a swivel with a carabiner to the base. But even here, not everything is so simple, the size of these little things should be minimal, but the discontinuous indicators are on top.

The subtleties of fishing on microjig

Micro jig is the only bait that can stir up the fish in their passivity without any problems. The tackle consists of a light weight jig head and a silicone bait, up to 5 cm long, you can collect silicone on offset hooks or catch on a retractable leash with a small sinker.

Such baits are used both in stagnant water with shallow and medium depths, and in a river, avoiding deep places with a current.

For successful pike fishing, you should know the most successful types of postings:

• the classic or “step” is most often used, a couple of turns with the reel handle, then a pause until the bait is completely lowered to the bottom, then everyone repeats;
• it will work perfectly with microjig and pulling the bait with the tip of the rod by 10-15 cm, then choose the slack, then lower the tip of the spinning rod to its original position;
• uniform wiring will also be effective.

But it’s not worth dwelling on just one, experiments will bring more sense. It is important to be able to combine postings, maintain correct pauses and understand when it is worth winding up faster, and when to slow down a little. This is achieved by regularly fishing with a blank and is called a fishing experience.
