Spicy food: benefits and harms to the body

Should you include savory foods in your diet?

Hot spices and herbs enrich the taste of dishes, but we rarely think about what effect they have on the human body. Spicy food affects our taste buds and stimulates our appetite, and at the same time many disadvantages are attributed to it. However, supporters of fiery food have many reasonable arguments about its medicinal properties.

This particular food can be both healthy and unhealthy. What is spicy food for the body?

The benefits of spicy food (provided that it is natural and does not contain chemical additives)

  • Normalizes blood circulation. Burning food dilates blood vessels, strengthens capillary walls and stabilizes pressure.

  • Minimizes the risk of cardiovascular pathologies. Capsaicin in spicy foods lowers bad cholesterol and raises good cholesterol.

  • It improves digestion. Stimulates the secretion of gastric juice. Neutralizes spiral bacteria – causative agents of stomach ulcers and gastritis.

  • Helps to lose weight. Spicy food relieves a person from hunger and the desire to eat sweet, salty and fatty foods.

  • Relieves colds. Burning dishes eliminate nasal congestion, help the bronchi to secrete mucus, relieve spasms and strengthen the mucous membrane.

  • Fights depression. Relieves stress, reduces stress on the nervous system, stimulates the production of the hormone of happiness.

The harm of spicy food (with its regular excess consumption)

  • In the presence of gastritis, pancreatitis, gastrointestinal diseases exacerbates the signs of these diseases, which can lead to serious complications.

  • Provokes heartburn.

  • Causes unpleasant persistent odor from the mouth after consuming garlic, onions and other foods with a specific aroma.

  • Violates the sensitivity of taste buds, and this is fraught with a loss of interest in dishes without spices and seasonings (they seem bland).

  • Aggravates hemorrhoids due to the ability of capsaicin not to break down in the digestive system and cause burns to inflamed tissue.

Of course, in many ways the benefits and harms of spicy food depend only on your individual characteristics, so listen to the needs of your body. But we recommend not to overuse hot dishes, since such a diet cannot be the basis of a healthy diet.
