Speech therapy massage for children: language, how to do it at home

Speech therapy massage for children is prescribed by a doctor if the child has certain speech defects. Parents can eliminate violations without leaving home, after consulting a specialist.

Massaging the tongue with a toothbrush

Tongue massage is necessary if there is a violation or regular loss of voice, involuntary salivation, stuttering and other speech defects. Massaging will allow the child to pronounce different sounds clearly and strengthen the articulatory muscles. It has a positive impact in the fight against violations.

Do speech therapy massage for children in a ventilated room

For the procedure, take a soft-bristled brush and place gauze napkins in the lower palate. Change them as often as possible, as they absorb saliva secreted. Make a circular, lateral movement with the brush, but do not press on it. Vibrating motion over the entire surface can be used. At the same time, the tongue should be relaxed.

The first procedure will take about 5 minutes, and for an infant – 2 minutes. Gradually increase the time, the 5th session should be about 15-20 minutes. All this time, the child should be comfortable and not hurt.

How to massage with spoons

Speech imperfections can be eliminated with 4 hours of smooth-surfaced spoons. Use them like this:

  • With the convex side, stroke the child’s temples, moving clockwise. Rub them in a spiral, finish with gentle pressing.
  • Stroke the area under the eyebrows, moving from the inner corner of the eyes. Perform the same actions under the eyes, moving from the outer to the inner corner.
  • Rub the bridge of the nose in a spiral.
  • Stroke your baby’s cheeks in a circular motion. Massage them from chin to eyes.
  • Use the end of the spoon to rub the nasolabial area and press it on the lips.
  • Knead your chin and cheekbones in a circular motion. Use all spoons for this.

These simple steps will not take long, but will be of immense benefit. Help your child in all possible ways.

Treatment of dysarthria at home

Dysarthria is a severe speech disorder associated with disorders of the central nervous system. In this situation, the child has slurred speech. This is due to the fact that sounds are substituted in words. A complex form of dysarthria is voice paralysis.

Before doing a massage at home, see how a specialist does it.

For treatment, you must contact a specialist who will examine the child and prescribe rational treatment. At home, parents can help a child like this:

  1. Lay the child on their back, place a small roller under the neck. Tilt your baby’s head back slightly.
  2. Wrap a piece of sterile gauze around your index finger.
  3. Tap the area above the upper lip with your fingers, moving from left to right. Do the same movements under the lower lip, moving in the opposite direction.
  4. Use your fingertips to knead the area between your nose and lips, then lightly stroke the area with the edge of your finger.
  5. Place your index fingers at the corners of your lips. Press on them and bring your lips together so that the mouth takes the shape of a tube.
  6. Press your index finger to the center of your lower lip and move it up.
  7. Pinch your lips with both hands, between your thumb and forefinger. Flipping with your fingers, start moving from left to right as if you were closing the pies.
  8. Place your index finger behind your cheek, and press it from the outside with your thumb. Perform circular motions upward along the cheek. In this case, the fingers inside and outside should move together.
  9. Press the tip of your tongue against your upper teeth.

For the first time, this procedure should last no more than 8 minutes. In the future, increase the time, bringing it to 20 minutes. In order to get a good result, you need 20 sessions with a frequency of 2 months.

Speech impairment is easier to deal with in early childhood, so take the time to work with your children.
