How does Spasmoline work?
The active ingredient of spasmoline is alweryna (in the form of easily digestible alverine citrate, which is easily absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract). Alweryna this organic compound, derived from amines, is in the form of a white, crystalline powder. Alweryna has a strong diastolic effect on smooth muscles. It works by inhibiting a cellular enzyme called phosphodiesterase. Inhibiting the activity of this enzyme causes the accumulation of a compound called cAMP in the smooth muscle cell, which in turn triggers a series of reactions leading to the relaxation of the muscle cell. Alweryna It also blocks calcium channels, which prevents the influx of calcium into the cells, which in turn prevents them from contracting. It also acts on receptors located in the membranes of muscle and nerve cells (5HT1A receptors) by blocking them, which also gives the final analgesic effect by eliminating visceral pain.

Spasmoline is a drug used usually temporarily, in the case of pain caused by contractions. It is used in adults and children over 12 years of age.
