A person in the USSR lived in a state of constant war – with everyday life. The dashing nineties only added fuel to this fire. That is why some “soviet” habits have stuck in us forever. Which of them are still relevant now, and which is the time to get rid of?
Package Package
Packages in the USSR were rare, especially with foreign inscriptions. Each plastic bag with handles was carefully taken care of so that, on occasion, you could walk beautifully with it – this is not for you to walk with a string bag and not with a colorful homemade grandmother’s bag.
Nowadays, packages arrive at our harbor every day: they are used to pack food and manufactured goods in stores in accordance with the rules of service culture. But why throw away brand new packages when they can be reused multiple times? There is a certain logic in this: there is a lot of garbage from a person in the world.
Mayonnaise container
The inhabitants of the USSR used glass mayonnaise jars for testing, and the current zealous housewives with might and main use spacious mayonnaise buckets on the farm, for example, for seedlings or for carrying food for a picnic. The bucket performs the function of a tray for storing and carrying food unsatisfactorily: you cannot heat food in the microwave in it. And the habit of planting flowers in mayonnaise buckets makes it feel like a nursing home. An indoor plant and a pot are always a single composition. And the bucket of mayonnaise does not fit into this composition.
And now, thank God, special containers are sold in pharmacies for taking tests in the polyclinic.
Lots of food for the trip
The famous fried chicken in foil in the train compartment, cucumbers with tomatoes and hard-boiled eggs. What will be fed in your dining car is another question. And here everything is own, homemade, however, perishable. When, according to the Soviet habit, will we stop packing a huge bag of food with us on the way? When the corresponding service in our country will also overcome the “soviet” level.
Soda instead of cleaning agent
So what? Cheap and environmentally friendly, by the way! Does not contain surfactants and other chemicals, and even washes away burnt fat well. Only with Teflon it is necessary to be more careful, after all, albeit small, but abrasive.
Another good Soviet options for washing dishes are dry mustard, vinegar and special baking soda, in which you can soak very dirty dishes for a long time, for example, in which you cooked fish soup on a campfire.
Chlorine
Many housewives quickly become boring with modern delicate means for washing and disinfecting various surfaces. These lemon and mountain lavender scents of yours are for the wimps. The Soviet person knows: if he does not smell of bleach, there is no question of any disinfection. Bleach is a XNUMX% guarantee. It is an armor-piercing weapon against bacteria.
In principle, nothing bad if used carefully, without fanaticism. Chlorine is a very active, poisonous substance, and with a strong concentration in the air, chlorine vapors can burn the human respiratory system. It is better to work with him in a protective mask and induce a weak solution.
Newspaper instead of toilet paper
This extreme economy option is still in use at summer cottages and on hikes. But, in all honesty, circumstances are different, and in other difficult times people have to save even on toilet paper. In the USSR, the problem was different: the coveted rolls were in great shortage.
Jar with buttons
From each item of clothing that had served its time, Soviet housewives cut off the buttons and stored them in what, mostly in cans from groceries. And the truth is, do not run after every button in haberdashery, if you suddenly need it! Now there are a lot of buttons on sale and you can always find the right one in case of need, but why spend extra money?
Glass jars
What did the Soviet housewives do in summer and autumn? That’s right, they made preparations for the winter. Cucumbers, tomatoes, jam, compotes, tomato paste, lecho, salads, juices, and so on. Every hustler knew: glass jars are worth their weight in gold! And, by the way, this is not such a Soviet habit, harvesting is popular in many countries of the world. And the glass container for seaming is the most environmentally friendly.
Storing belongings on the balcony
Isn’t this why balconies are made in houses ?! This discovery … And then what to do if the pantry in the Khrushchev is already all occupied?
If a villager or a resident of a country cottage clogs sheds, cages and basements with rubbish, then the citizen has nowhere to go: a bicycle and glass jars with seaming can be held on the balcony. And there are a number of other things that cannot be thrown away.
Tights with a moving “arrow” under trousers and boots
Okay, let’s pretend to be millionaires, because we still won’t be able to portray billionaires. If you don’t shout about your know-how at all crossroads, then no one will know anything. Our mothers in the era of the USSR would not have gasped in that case: go buy them then, these tights …
Piggy bank with change
Soviet people have always sorted trifles: “kopeck pieces” for a payphone, three-kopeck pieces for drinking water with syrup in a vending machine, “tag” for long-distance calls at a public telephone booth, and so on.
Containers with small change in a secluded place at home and now many have – you can always take a little by minibus or by metro.
Old things – into rags
Children’s things with a high content of natural fibers are great for dusting, diapers are generally a universal thing, and in the garage everything will do to wipe oil-oil hands, even chiffon and crimplen.
A Soviet person cannot specifically buy rags in stores, what is he, a fool, or what? Maybe he should start buying air for himself?
Bow in stockings
A very convenient and environmentally friendly way to store onions. Tights are required for this to be at least 70 denier, with polyamide and elastane, but without microfiber. Smart people are able to make an art object out of tights stuffed with onions.
While you are laughing here, someone is still washing the dishes with an old stocking, and nothing …
Second life of old clothes
A T-shirt with a spot on the belly is thrown away only by abnormal ones – you can wear it at home for another hundred years! And softly, and not scary to slap.
And when she completely loses her appearance, she can be sent to the dacha along with other old stuff: in nature it is very convenient and logical to dress in shabby clothes.
Handful of remnants
It even sounds scary. But they haven’t taken out a mortgage yet. And if the need is attached, you will fall in love with both instant noodles and grandmother’s way of saving soap.
Cleaning windows with chalk and crumpled newspapers
The classics of the life of our grandmothers, old school in its purest form. If for some reason (maybe for religious reasons) you are disgusted with using a spray to clean the glass, or you are simply not inclined to look for easy ways, you will love the method of cleaning windows with crushed chalk.
Crushed and dissolved in water to the consistency of liquid sour cream, chalk is applied to the glass. Then it dries up, and then you need to rub the chalk glass with crumpled newspapers. The sound will be such that we will not envy you. But they say that there will be no stains on the glass after washing the windows with water. But from such old-regime methods of cleaning, another divorce may mature …
