A sore throat is one of the signs of a cold. Most often, it can be dealt with with the help of pharmacy lozenges or sprays that have antimicrobial action. However, during pregnancy, medications can harm the unborn baby, and therefore it is better to use safe home remedies for treatment.

The best way to gargle during pregnancy

A sore throat during pregnancy is safer and most effective to treat with gargling. They have an anti-inflammatory effect, eliminate hoarseness and prevent bacterial complications. Their advantage is the fact that they do not enter the systemic circulation, which means that they cannot harm either the child or the expectant mother.

Treatment should be started without waiting for the pain to become unbearable. It is better to take action at an early stage of the disease – with a slight sore throat or barely noticeable hoarseness of the voice. An effective antimicrobial solution can be prepared by adding a teaspoon of sea salt or regular salt to a glass of warm water, the same amount of baking soda, and a drop of iodine. Gargle them once every 1-2 hours. For the procedure, a fresh solution should be prepared each time.

If a sore throat is accompanied by an enlargement of the submandibular lymph nodes, as well as a high fever, you should immediately consult a doctor. These symptoms may indicate a sore throat, and it in itself is dangerous for the unborn baby.

You can also gargle with herbal decoctions.

The anti-inflammatory and analgesic effect is possessed by:

  • camomile
  • sage
  • eucalyptus
  • mint

You can brew one thing, or you can alternate or mix them together. One thing is important: rinses should be regular, and the broth should be freshly prepared.

Severe sore throat will help cure tincture of calendula. It takes too long to cook it yourself, and therefore it is better to purchase it in advance at the pharmacy. You can make a rinse solution by adding a teaspoon of the tincture to a glass of warm boiled water. This remedy is not very pleasant to the taste, but it helps even in the most advanced cases, for example, pharyngitis or sore throat.

Other remedies to help manage a sore throat

It’s not just gargling that can relieve a sore throat. Honey has a good analgesic effect. If heated and mixed with aloe vera juice, it is an excellent remedy for treating both viral and bacterial infections. Optimal proportions: 2 drops of juice per tablespoon of honey. It is best to take this “medicine” with hot tea or milk.

A warming compress can help relieve a sore throat. To do this, the neck should be lubricated with “Star” balm or “Doctor Mom” ointment, and then wrapped in a shawl or warm scarf. The procedure should be repeated 2-3 times a day, and after a couple of days there will be no trace of the sore throat.
