On September 20, one of the most famous Italians in history turns 85 years old. She was remembered not only for her brilliant roles in film masterpieces, but also for the fact that she introduced into fashion a whole arsenal of female tricks, which our women imitated, as they confessed to “Antenna” on the eve of their colleague’s anniversary.

1. Crescent-shaped eyebrows
Natalia Sedykh: “Sophia Loren is, of course, an absolutely wonderful creature. It was she who introduced the innovative for her time, extremely expressive eyebrows, which I also did for myself. Let me remind you that no female part of the body, perhaps, changed the fashion for its appearance as often as eyebrows. Since the 1920s, girls, following the example of Marlene Dietrich, simply shaved them off and drew new ones – perfectly straight strings were obtained. In the 1930s, the eyebrows were still thinner than a pencil stroke, but the ladies, following Greta Garbo, gave them a dramatic theatrical curve, as if an eternal surprise. In the 1940s, women no longer shaved, but carefully plucked their eyebrows, and the trend was a sharpened tip, reaching to the very temple, like Grace Kelly… In the 1950s Marilyn Monroe even more condensed them and made the bend playful. It would seem, what else could Sophia Loren come up with new here? But nevertheless, it is her eyebrows from the 1960s that are considered classics. She achieved optimal volume – neither thin nor thick. And the charm created a special “crescent bend”, which made her look confident and even a little cocky. Since the 2000s, naturalness has been in fashion: unkempt wide eyebrows, but I still consider the Italian woman to be the standard in this regard. Sophie is a woman of rare beauty, but everyone does not need to be like her: it still will not work. But I urge everyone to follow the fashion she introduced. “
2. Bright lips
Lyudmila Khityaeva: “I always liked her. As an actress, I adore her and admire her. But in terms of female beauty, we, Soviet actresses, in my opinion, tried to follow our own fashion, which was very different from that of the Italian era. One thing was unavoidable: rich lipstick. The women asked: “I want lips like Sophia Loren’s.” But what did they say: her lips even deserved their own name – “Sofia”. And everyone understood who they were talking about. Until now, I paint my lips only with expensive lipsticks of the highest quality. And they talk to me. “
3. Large glasses and hats
Larisa Luzhina: “I love the birthday girl with the most tender love. She is beautiful. And, being now in Evpatoria, I send her warm greetings and best wishes for her birthday. Here, on the seashore, I wear sunglasses, of which the birthday girl has managed to make a cult item. She chose them larger, half-face. It was extremely difficult for us 60 years ago to find at least similar ones in stores, so we got out as best we could. Those who went on tour to the West tried to buy them there. The same goes for the wide, tall, voluminous hats, which were incredible for her. She is catchy, characteristic, versatile, talented both comedy and dramatic, and skillfully emphasized this with innovative accessories. Her whole appearance worked to attract attention. From her, you can and should take an example of how to present yourself and how to adequately approach a certain age, without cheating on yourself and remaining in great shape. I heard that she strictly monitors herself and, for example, goes to bed early – at 6 pm, and gets up early – at 6 am ”.
4. Leopard print
Nina Grebeshkova“She drove men crazy by dressing up in leopard-colored clothes. Where did she get it? I suppose here she was betting on the primitive instincts of the opposite sex: after all, in the most ancient times, when women had nothing to wear at all, they dressed in animal skins. And then she made the right decision: for the gentlemen it acted like a red rag for a bull. Thanks to her sexuality, the leopard print has become one of the eternal things that will never go out of fashion. I also have something with him – a jacket, which I sometimes take out of the closet. “
5. Pencil skirt
Natalia Selezneva: “Sophie is divine and inimitable both as an actress and as a woman. Oh, how she moves, how much humor she has, what kind of partners she has – to match her! Yes, no one can be compared with her. But we nevertheless on our own, as we could, got out of the situation. They bought what they could buy, sewed what they could sew. For example, her famous skirts – pencil and mini. Personally, I first went for them to different dressmakers, then made friends with Slava Zaitsev… You still have to dare to wear a pencil skirt – if a good figure, then this is the most attractive thing that can only be on a woman. But for this you need to have impeccable hips and legs, and this is not given to everyone. But there should be a limit in everything: like Lauren, I never allowed myself to go out in indecent length, we both kept our heads, everything was in moderation, people around were admired, not shocked. “
6. Emphasis on the chest
Zinaida Kiriyenko: “But she was not a beauty in the conventional sense: she has a long nose, a huge mouth, cheekbones. But Italians and especially their cinema are promoting their ideals. They exalt women to heaven, whatever they are. To present the actress at her best on the screen is in their culture and blood. Somehow I confessed this to me Federico Fellini… And Sophia Loren, they advantageously emphasized everything that they could emphasize, nurtured her gorgeous gait, opened in her an abyss of charisma and charm. Of all the shortcomings, dignity was molded. They themselves admired her. But in Soviet cinema, they made a beauty out of the very opposite – an ordinary woman, corresponding to our labor ideals. Therefore, she impresses with her conviction that she is beautiful. Every lady should have such an opinion of herself, if she is not stupid. One of the coolest features of the hero of the day is the emphasis on the chest, which she emphasized, including corsets. And at us in the same era, the breast appeared on the screen only if it really was: our directors of that time did not even think of highlighting it. How grateful I am to Lauren that thanks to her courage, this most beautiful part of a woman’s body began to be singled out on purpose (I also wore a corset in the 1958 film “The Thief Magpie”). This is real art, which should prevail over reality. Bravo, Sophie! “
And this is not her: arrows on the eyelids
Edita Pieha: “When I am compared to Sophia Loren, there is no female resentment, jealousy, envy – honestly, although I think that we are too different. It is often credited to me that I “stole” her eyelids. Let me clarify once and for all in honor of the round date: the first here was another brilliant Italian – Gina Lollobrigida… It was Lauren who adopted her style of emphasizing the eyelids, but we may all have two of them, although every self-respecting actress will say that she never borrowed anything from anyone. I will give you advice from personal experience how to bring your eyes so that everyone gasps: you need to look at yourself in the mirror appraisingly. And Sophie is great. I wish her health, prosperity and everything to be wonderful. “
