PSYchology

Fear of genetically modified foods or faith in the effectiveness of homeopathy — where do they come from?

It seems to be from the Internet: it generates a lot of myths and «fakes» (deliberately false judgments) that exploit our everyday ignorance. They are exposed by the biologist and journalist Asya Kazantseva. She’s among the few science promoters who aren’t afraid to use online slang like «thank you, cap» when talking about, say, nucleotides. She writes lively and witty, and at the same time her lyrics look convincing. Such stylistic eclecticism is quite appropriate, because her book is addressed to those who practically “live” on the Web. However, learning to critically evaluate new information and reconsider your beliefs is useful for everyone.
