Solve your problems in a dream … Is it possible?

Using the example of a client case, psychotherapist Anton Vorobyov shows how you can work with dreams. And each of us can do it.

Why do we dream? What can we do with them? Dreams are clues from the wise unconscious about what is important to us. Even the most intricate plot can become an adviser on improving life for someone who knows how to work with a dream.

The psychological interpretation of a dream is like listening to a song in an unknown language. It suddenly catches on with something, and then you suddenly find a translation of the text and understand that the meaning was familiar from the very beginning at some deep level.

I’ll tell you on the example of my client’s dream. 29-year-old Anna came to me with a problem of choice. She spent a lot of time with her daughter. But the girl was 3 years old, and she no longer needed the constant presence of her mother, and Anna began to think about her life: whether to return to her former profession (related to cinema) or take up a new business (she was fluent in several foreign languages and thought, not to become a teacher).

In addition, she traveled a lot and thought about which country to choose for permanent residence. However, it was not possible to make a decision, thoughts were spinning in my head, creating an alarming tension. Anna had no idea that one of her dreams already contained a solution to the problems.

Anna’s dream

Working with symbols is the most interesting part of the psychological interpretation, which differs from the everyday one. In everyday life or in numerous dream books presented on the Web, something like a dictionary is used, in which several meanings are assigned to each image. The dreamer’s personality, his own experience are not taken into account.

And the psychologist conducts a dialogue with the dreamer, helping him to immerse himself in the symbolic content and find the meaning himself – the meaning that, like a letter, is addressed to him personally.

The fact is that not only objects or events are important for a dream, but also how they relate to each other and what they associate with a particular client. Therefore, we began to find out what the individual details of the dream and their state mean for Anna.

Sleep symbols

  • The bed symbolized that inner part of Anna’s personality that feels abandoned. This part wants to be given attention and found the right place for it.
  • The grandmother, with her transformation, wanted to show that the granddaughter is focusing on the wrong thing. Instead of looking at her daughter and the whole world outside the old house, the dreamer is still sad about the loss of contact with her grandmother.
  • The paper that flies around the room is empty business, fuss that distracts from the important things in life.
  • The tapestry symbolizes an inner state of acceptance and calmness, and at the same time something joyful and solemn.

Psychological interpretation

As a result of our joint work, Anna realized that the dream said that her life was divided into two states. The first has to do with the fact that she is internally looking for support, just as the bed in her dream is waiting for someone from outside to put her in the right place (tell Anna what decisions to make).

In this state, her travels play the role of external distractions, and lately they no longer bring pleasure. Arriving in a new place, she feels some meaninglessness of what is happening. She seems to be wasting her time and money.

The second state is associated with the anticipation of those projects that have not yet been implemented, goals, maybe even missions, which cause a feeling of joyful and solemn anticipation (tapestry). What is missing in life now, but what would be nice to come to.

Through clarifying the meaning of the dream, Anna realized:

  • that in fact she is now satisfied with the place of residence;
  • that it is not worth spending time and money on trips that she makes more out of habit than for pleasure or new experiences;
  • that she is ready to return to the main tasks of life: the implementation of already planned projects and the upbringing of her daughter.

And after that, she was able to think about what specific steps would allow her to reduce the internal conflict and act in accordance with the prompts that she received in the dream.

Dreams always make sense

To understand your dream, it is helpful to think of the dream as a play and its characters as actors. Moreover, unlike ordinary theater, even inanimate objects are not just scenery, but also actors with their own role. By imagining ourselves in the place of each of them, trying on their role, we can better understand its content. Reincarnating as these characters, we can catch what message they want to convey to us.

All dream characters are parts of our personality. Even when we see someone we know in a dream, it means that our unconscious has used his image to convey some message to us. This idea seems strange to some at first. But this is a matter of practice.

Anna understood the meaning of the dream with my help. I introduced her to the algorithm of my technique for self-interpretation, so that, if desired, she herself could hear the prompt of the unconscious.
