PSYchology

In this type of therapy, the emphasis is on discussing solutions rather than the client’s problems. Decisions that have already been made or that are yet to be found.

The therapist draws attention to the time in the client’s life when he did not have problems, on the contrary, he felt confident. Solution orientation, recognition of the value of the future, working with resources and strengths, “well-defined” goals are all tools of this approach.

History

1980s Psychotherapists Steve de Shazer and Insoo Kim Berg of the Center for Brief Family Therapy (USA) are developing a method to reduce the study period, increase the time to find solutions, and bring the start of minimal changes closer. Today, solution-focused therapy is spread all over the world, international conferences are held annually, books and articles are published, and research is carried out based on the ideas of this approach.

Progress

At the meeting, the therapist uses specific questions to help the client come to new (unexpected) solutions.

Indications for use

The approach can be recommended for individual counseling, for working with families, adolescents, people who have experienced post-traumatic stress disorder. In addition, this approach is common in business and is part of coaching.
