Molluscum contagiosum nodules appear most often due to contact with infected people or objects they use. Usually, the problem affects children under the age of 5 or young adults. The preparation for this disease is Solphadermol.

Solphadermol – how does it work?

Solphadermol is a drug used in dermatology and venereology. It is used in the treatment of skin eruptions resulting from infection with the molluscum contagiosum virus. The active substance of Solphadermol is potassium hydroxide, which interferes with the lipid-collagen envelope of the virus and thus damages it. Thus, a local defense reaction takes place in the skin at the site of the eruptions. Infected cells become visible to the immune system, which causes local, painless inflammation. This is when you should stop taking Solphadermol. The effects of the treatment are the healing and disappearance of the efflorescence.

It is possible to use Solphadermol in children and adults. However, it should be remembered that the preparation is not intended for treatment of newborns and children under 2 years of age.

Importantly, Solphadermol is not used on warts. Eruptions may confuse the patient, therefore, if lumps appear on the skin, consult a specialist doctor.

Solphadermol – composition

The ingredients of the Solphadermol preparation are:

  1. main substance – potassium hydroxide,
  2. additional substance – purified water.

Solphadermol – how to use?

Solphadermol is intended for external use. It is applied topically in the area of efflorescence. It is recommended to dose Solphadermol twice a day. Directions for use:

  1. apply a small amount of the preparation on the spatula,
  2. carefully place on the nodules of the contagious mollusk,
  3. let it dry.

The moment when the use of Solphadermol should be finished is the appearance of inflammations – symptoms of the beginning of the healing of eruptions. They are manifested by redness that lasts for about 12 hours. Solphadermol cannot be used for more than 14 days.

However, before starting the use of Solphadermol, the patient should read the leaflet, as well as the expiry date of the drug. Do not use it beyond this date. Solpahdermol after opening can only be used for the next 4 weeks. During application, avoid contact with the eyes and use only on the site of the lesion caused by the virus, because Solphadermol, due to the potassium lye, is very corrosive.

Store Solphadermol in a dry place out of the reach of children. It is important that the bottle is tightly closed and remains in an upright position.
