The safety and comfort of children is the first concern of parents. The floor usually raises the most questions: what kind of coating to choose so that it is warm, soft, but at the same time so that dust does not collect? So far, there is only one option – a soft floor for children’s rooms and EVA foam.
What is made of
A soft floor for children’s rooms was made from an ethyl vinyl acetate copolymer – EVA or in the Russian version of EVA. This copolymer foams, small bubbles are created in it, which give softness, elasticity and heat-insulating properties. The technological processes for obtaining this material are not as important as its characteristics. The most important of them:
- environmentally friendly;
- has good shock-absorbing properties;
- does not store static electricity;
- easy;
- increased properties for sound insulation;
- has high heat-insulating properties (same as good heat-insulating materials);
- cleans well, detergents can be used;
- does not absorb moisture or dirt.
Technical characteristics of the material from which the soft floor for children’s rooms is made
It turns out an almost perfect floor covering for a children’s room, and experience confirms this. If we talk about small children, it is important for them that the surface of the soft floor is non-slip. On such a floor covering, they learn to crawl and then walk without any problems. In crawling children, the legs-handles remain warm, and there are no red marks on the knees – the surface is elastic and at the same time not rigid.
The elasticity of the surface softens the blows well. Small children often fall, which worries parents. With a soft floor, you can not worry, as the shock-absorbing properties soften the impact much. The degree of damping depends on the thickness of the coating. It can be from 5 mm to 10 mm (the thicker, the softer, but density still matters).
Form of issue
The soft floor for children’s rooms is produced in the form of modules of different sizes. They are connected to each other with a lock – like puzzles. The design features gave a few more names to this flooring: a modular floor or a warm puzzle floor. All this is a soft floor in the nursery.
Soft floor puzzle modules have different sizes:
- 25 * 25 cm;
- 30 * 30 cm;
- 33 * 33 cm;
- 50 * 50 cm;
- 60 * 60 cm;
- 100 * 100 see.
“Adult” colors
The thickness of the mats may also differ: from 5 mm to 10 mm. There are a variety of colors – plain, wood, stone, with numbers, images of animals, flowers, with the image of cartoon characters, with graphic drawings. There are even with a fleecy coating, reminiscent of a carpet – in different colors with different pile lengths. It is not suitable for small children, but for grown-ups it is easy. You can use the same coating in the hallway and in other rooms.
How is going
The modular elements of the soft floor in the nursery are connected with the help of protrusions and recesses – locks. Align the edges of the two modules, insert them one into the other, slightly stretch to the sides. When laying the coating, please note that one of the corners has the form of an arrow, try to lay the tiles so that these arrows are directed in one direction. This is especially important when assembling coatings with a textured surface (there are grooves, wavy lines, with a rough pimply upper part).
You can lay a soft modular floor on any flat surface. You can not fix it with anything – it almost does not slip, but if you wish, you can fix it with double-sided tape. When used in gyms or other similar premises, the modules are glued to a polymer adhesive.
The soft floor tile comes with an edge tape that covers the uneven edge. She just puts on the edge. Such a system has one drawback: curious little children remove this tape all the time, getting to the castles.
Care and experience
As mentioned earlier, the material does not accumulate static electricity, so dust does not stick to it. The soft floor for children’s rooms is wiped with a damp cloth, you can use dish detergent. If such cleaning no longer helps, the rug is disassembled and washed in the bathroom, they wait until the water drains (it is not absorbed), then they are collected again. There is another possibility – to lay the modular floor in the dishwasher and run the mode with a temperature not higher than 55 ° C.
Paints are resistant, do not shed and do not fade for a long time. If we talk about colors, then yellow is the most visible dirt, but it is understandable – the lightest color.
Another nice feature of the soft modular coating: spilled liquids and oils are not absorbed into the pores and do not spread. They can be easily wiped with a dry cloth, after which no traces remain. Even pencils, paints, felt-tip pens and plasticine are removed without a trace – and no significant effort is required. Just do not use abrasive products (powders). They scratch the surface, worsening the properties of the coating.
Many parents worry about whether young children will be able to bite off a piece of the coating. It is impossible to vouch for the fact that they will not try it “by the tooth”, but that’s what they won’t bite off – that’s for sure. You can try it yourself. The material is very elastic, if you manage to break it, then with great difficulty.
Soft flooring for children’s rooms is good not only for kids. For schoolchildren, you can choose neutral colors – they are available both under parquet and in the form of carpet. The comfort of such a floor is much higher than the same carpet. And its undoubted plus is that it does not collect dust and is easily removed.
