Soft contact lenses can be worn in hot weather

Hot summers with high air temperatures do not negatively affect the wearing of soft contact lenses. The human body maintains a temperature on the surface of the eye of about 35 degrees Celsius, and this figure does not change under the influence of external temperatures. Therefore, if you choose contact vision correction, you can use the lenses as usual, even in very hot weather, without fear of any consequences.

For example, in countries with a traditionally hot climate, such as Italy, Spain, Greece, the United Arab Emirates and many others, where the air temperature in the shade in summer rises above 40 degrees annually, the population actively uses contact lenses.

1. Can contact lenses be worn in hot weather?

Unlike spectacle frames, lenses do not heat up, do not glare, do not cause increased sweating and irritation. Therefore, ophthalmologists recommend using lenses when traveling to the sea. And manufacturers are trying to make them as comfortable and even useful for the eyes as possible. For example, Johnson & Johnson’s ACUVUE® lenses help protect the cornea and the inside of the eye from harmful ultraviolet radiation using a special UV filter. But even with such lenses, you must also wear sunglasses: they protect the part of the eye that is not covered by the contact lens and the area around the eyes.

2. Are the lenses damaged by smoke and fumes due to fires that have spread so actively throughout the country?

Contact lenses protect your eyes from smoke and dust. To prevent harmful substances from accumulating on the lenses in the form of deposits, the doctor recommended using daily contact lenses. They do not require maintenance: you need to put on a fresh pair of lenses in the morning, and remove and discard in the evening.

3. Air conditioners and fans dry up the air, causing dry eye syndrome. Should you not wear lenses in such cases?

If your eyes are uncomfortable, you can fix this problem with special moisturizing eye drops. Or choose special moisturizing lenses.
