Social media disruption: how it affected us

Humanity has long passed to a completely new stage of development — the world of people and the world of technology are so intertwined that they practically form a single whole. And yesterday we were once again convinced of this. Is it worth sounding the alarm?

The social networks Facebook (an extremist organization banned in Russia) and Instagram (an extremist organization banned in Russia), as well as the WhatsApp messenger (all owned by the Facebook concern) (an extremist organization banned in Russia) suffered a many-hour failure. From 18.40 to 1.30 Moscow time, these Internet platforms were unavailable worldwide.

Moreover, the internal services of the company also “lay down” — employees could not even get to their workplaces, since their passes did not work.

The reasons for the failure have not yet been discovered, but the consequences, as they say, are obvious. Thus, the failure of Facebook (an extremist organization banned in Russia) led to a serious fall in the stock markets, and the founder of the company, Mark Zuckerberg, lost about $ 7 billion and even dropped from fifth to sixth place in the list of the richest people in the world.

In general, the number of users of Facebook services (an extremist organization banned in Russia) exceeds three billion, which means that in addition to the global economy and Zuckerberg’s wallet, private individuals, most of us, also suffered from the failure. Many called what happened a real Apocalypse.

Yes, it seems that yesterday the level of anxiety in the whole of humanity jumped sharply, and tension hung in the air for several hours. Someone’s work process has stopped, someone has lost contact with loved ones, and someone, albeit for a while, has lost the opportunity to express himself.

The virtual world has become an inseparable part of our reality. We depend on him, and this must be recognized. But to demonize this connection, of course, is not worth it. Progress is moving forward, and with the pace of our lives, socializing online is a great way out.

Life for show, a personal diary (blog) oriented to the public is not only the cause of envy, idealization of other people and the formation of low self-esteem. It is also a chance to learn something new, to be inspired, to expand horizons. To lose all this is hard and … scary.

But this anxiety makes us once again turn to the main existential problem — everything in the world is finite

The fear of loss that has haunted us since childhood, from the moment we were first left without a mother, can really poison our lives. When the familiar world suddenly changes, the ground leaves under our feet, and we fall into the state of an abandoned child. And that’s okay.

However, it is our choice whether to return control to our own hands or not. Now we are adults, which means we are really responsible for how we react. And the skill of adaptation is perhaps the key here.

It is extremely important to accept the variability of circumstances, stop being afraid of the unknown and remember that there are no hopeless situations. Through acceptance of the impermanence of our world, one can gain freedom, greater strength, and feel like the master of any situation. Even if the Internet disappears all over the planet at one moment.
