Snake wine (some regions call the drink snake water or serpentine) is an invention of the East, very popular in Vietnam and China. In our country, this drink can be found in pharmacies (as a medicine) or purchased as an exotic, unique souvenir. For our region, the use of such exotic products as poisonous snakes is unacceptable. Zmeevka is a unique drink with healing properties that helps to get rid of many diseases with different etiologies. It is important to remember that such an incredible drink must be properly prepared so that it acquires healing properties, and does not turn into poison.
Snake wine – tincture of poisonous reptiles in alcohol. What snakes are tinctures made on? The most commonly used cobra. The most popular Chinese snake vodka is made in Jilin province. The exact list of ingredients is kept secret, but the Chinese claim that this particular drink was loved and respected by the emperors of the Celestial Empire, and today it is recommended for medical use by the Chinese Ministry of Health. There is no mass production of the drink, only home cooking according to standards known only to manufacturers.
The recipe for making snake wine also depends on the country, but some ingredients still unite them. Everything about snake wine is known only to indigenous Vietnamese or Chinese. The approximate technology for making a drink is known, but remember that preparing it at home can be dangerous to your health. An adult cobra is placed alive in an empty, clean, resealable container for two to three weeks so that it is completely cleared of excrement. After that, the snake is placed in a special bottle or jar and filled with rice vodka (other strong alcohol if desired). You need to add spices and spices to vodka with a snake, close the container, and leave to infuse for at least a year.
Since at the time of blockage of the container, the snake is in a living state, its organs are activated and work to the maximum in order for the reptile to live longer, while as many useful and healing substances as possible are released into the vodka. Snake bile and poison are thrown into alcohol, while the harm of these components is neutralized to a greater extent by alcohol, as a result of proper preparation and full exposure, an effective and healing drug is obtained.
Interestingly, “snake wine” is a reusable drink. After all the wine is drunk from the vessel with the snake, the snake is again poured with rice vodka with spices and again left to infuse (the wine is infused for two to three months when re-cooked). The procedure can be repeated a maximum of five times.
In addition to making a tincture from a snake, snake wine can also be prepared from:
- snake blood;
- snake bile;
- other fluids extracted from the snake body.
To prepare a drink from the above components, it is not necessary to insist them on alcohol, it is enough to pour them into alcohol (keeping certain proportions). The drink is drunk in one gulp.
In many countries, the import of snake wine is prohibited, since individuals that are prohibited by the Red Book are often used for its manufacture.
History of snake wine
It is rather difficult to imagine who exactly came up with the idea to prepare an alcoholic drink from a poisonous cobra. There are various legends about the origin of the snake drink. One of them says that the drink appeared quite by accident. Once a reptile drowned in a vessel filled with wine, and the sick man, who did not suspect this, drank the wine and was completely healed.
The Chinese version of the legend says that a young girl had leprosy (it was previously believed that in order to get rid of the disease, one must pass it on to her husband). The girl was getting ready for the wedding. She was against transferring her illness to another person and subjecting him to lifelong torment in order to save the guy from such a fate, the bride ran away and hid in the distillery. While she was there, she drank wine to the point of drunkenness. When the girl woke up in the morning, she did not have a single sign of illness. It turns out she drank wine from a vessel in which there was a snake. It was from this moment that the Chinese began to use the healing properties of the snake in medicine.
If we turn to historical facts, then there are written sources dated to the third and second centuries BC, which indicated that the snake was actively used in medicine. The documents contain a detailed recipe for a snake drink, indicating which part of the snake has more useful and nutritious properties.

Harmful properties
Before opening a container with a drink, you need to make sure that the snake is dead and not in a coma. The snake, after being imprisoned, can come to its senses and make a fatal bite to the taster. Remember, mostly venomous snakes are used to make serpentine.
The second danger is the wrong aging time or a violation of the cooking technology. During the aging process, bile and poison are released into the drink, which must be neutralized during the preparation process, if the procedure is violated, the poison can poison the taster.
In order to reduce the risk of adverse reactions from taking a drink, you need to choose tinctures with a high level of strength, and make a purchase only from trusted distributors. Under no circumstances should you attempt to make the coil yourself.
