Smoke and heat: how to protect yourself

What actions should be taken to protect against smoke and what should expectant mothers do in case of an emergency?

In conditions of overheating and exposure to smog, pregnant women should follow a number of recommendations. First of all, reduce the time spent outdoors, especially during the hottest hours, from 10 am to 17 pm.

If they still have to go out into the air, then they need to wear light clothes, preferably from cotton fabrics, a hat, light shoes. Of course, you need to drink a lot of fluids, take water procedures during the day, do douches, but not very cold water. And of course, it is imperative to discuss changes in well-being with your attending physician.

What if the baby was born now, in abnormal heat and smog conditions? How to protect his health?

Young mothers should remember that it is more comfortable for a child to lie naked, covered only with a light diaper. Perhaps, in these conditions, you should not wear a diaper either. Second, the baby does a lot of work during breastfeeding, and any work means increased heat dissipation. In a newborn, the thermoregulation mechanism is still very imperfect, therefore it is undesirable for the child to suckle for a long time. Better to make feedings more frequent.

How to protect children from the negative effects of abnormal heat and smoke?

Even in city conditions, try not to let the child walk in the open air, in direct sunlight. It is better for children to be indoors from 10 am to 18 pm, since during these hours the highest concentration of harmful substances in the air is observed. During walks, a child must have a hat on his head; he should be dressed in light cotton clothes. And give the child to drink as much as possible – one and a half to two times more than the usual rate, excluding sweet carbonated water. Let it be simple water, juices, milk. Drinks should be moderately cold. Water treatments are useful, but the cooling of the body should be gradual. The diet can include fruits, vegetables, dairy products, rice, buckwheat porridge.

If the child feels unwell, vomiting, pallor, excitement, or, conversely, lethargy, he should be laid with a slight elevation of his head in a cool place where there is no direct sunlight, give him a drink.

What medicines can I give my child for headaches and dizziness caused by smog?

If a child has a severe headache, this is already a sign of sunstroke or heatstroke. In this case, I would recommend consulting a doctor without self-medication.
