Smesharikov has more than a hundred episodes, and this is now, by far, the most successful business project in Russian animation. Why, then, did these cartoons by the Petersburg studio, made in simplified computer flash animation technology and often criticized for poor design and candy colors, become a really favorite show for the whole family? In the world of Smeshariki, the heroes are not divided into good and bad, they do not fight each other, but coexist tolerantly, as each of us lives in a family or in society. In addition, these stories help children navigate the world. If the family is important for preschoolers, and the team comes to the fore for teenagers, then the series connects the team with the family. There are heroes of all generations here — children, adults and grandparents, each with their own character and social role. Energetic and full of irony, the scripts of Smeshariki are written, as it were, on several levels: they are so paradoxical and rich in cultural associations (movie quotes, references to literature, etc.) that they are incredibly interesting for adults as well. By the way, after the stories with the telling titles “Flying in a dream and in reality”, “Disco Dancer” and “Basic Instinct”, the series “Hedgehog in the Nebula” came out, and Yuri Norshtein had nothing against it.
