Small pine: planting and care

Pine lends itself well to formative pruning. This pliable flexible tree can take any size. It is resistant to frost and lack of moisture.

Pine trees grow rapidly and reach enormous sizes. Their life span is about 400 years. The needles are colored deep green. By pruning and pinching the branches, you can grow a small pine tree, and make the crown thicker and more lush.

A small pine tree has long needles of a deep green hue.

Trees 3 years old and older are pruned. The branches are shortened by 1/3 of the length. The cut is made at an oblique angle. This way you can set the growth direction for the branches. Branches growing inward are best removed completely. Young shoots – you need to pinch the candles. This will slow down the growth of the pine and prevent it from growing in length. Pruning and pinching can help:

  • maintaining the small size of the tree;
  • the formation of a voluminous and compact crown;
  • giving the crown of any shape.

Any manipulations should be done in the spring. During this period, the cut will quickly tighten without additional processing. Changing the length of the shoots allows you to control the growth of branches and give the tree a certain shape.

You can grow a coniferous tree with seeds or seedlings. The main thing is to prevent damage and desiccation of the root system. The root is unable to survive outdoors. To plant pine trees, you need to choose an area with a lot of sunlight. In the shade, it grows slowly and can be susceptible to disease. Humidity is not important to her. Only young seedlings need frequent watering. An adult tree need not be watered at all. For personal plots, pine varieties are suitable:

  • “Ordinary”;
  • “Balkan”;
  • «Кедровая»;
  • “Mountain”;
  • “Mugus”;
  • “Black”.

Pine trees are planted in early spring or fall. Structural and loose soils are suitable for planting. Organic or nitrogen fertilizers can be used as top dressing. An adult plant does not need feeding. It is imperative to install high drainage at the bottom of the planting pit. Stagnant moisture causes root rot. Young seedlings for the winter need to be covered with light material. Caring for an adult pine tree consists of removing broken or dried branches and pruning regularly.
