High temperatures outside the window make the rooms in which we stay warm too. Moreover, the situation does not improve at all overnight. And the warmer it is in the bedroom, the more difficult it becomes to fall asleep. Therefore, we decide to run a fan, fan or air conditioning. Is this a safe solution? Dr. Katarzyna Kasperek-Mosoń, ENT specialist from Wrocław Medical Center, is explaining for MedTvoiLokony.
– Air conditioning is generally good and needed. Day, night or in the car. Provided, however, that we can use it skillfully. The difference between the temperature outside and the set air conditioning should be about 6 degrees C. If it is higher, we expose the body to the so-called. thermal shock. But with a properly set temperature, even at night, air conditioning does not pose a threat to health – adds the expert.

– It’s the same with the fans. The main thing is not to put them directly on top of each other, with maximum force. The fan should blow around the entire room, thanks to which we minimize the risk of side effects.

In addition to the appropriate temperature of the cooling device, the issue of humidification is also very important. Both inside and outside.

If we use air conditioning for sleeping, we should also turn on the air humidifier. It is also important to drink water. Weakened mucosa may be the gateway to infections for bacteria and viruses. So if we do not moisturize it properly, we run the risk of e.g. angina.
Air conditioning in the car. How not to catch a cold?
We like to use artificial cooling not only at home, but also in the car. And it is fully understandable, because in hot weather, vehicles heat up rapidly. Here, however, it is also important to exercise moderation when it comes to choosing the cooling temperature.
– In the case of the car, the same principle applies to us as in the case of indoor air conditioning – we pay attention to temperature differences. This is especially important when we have a long journey to a warm country ahead of us. Let’s say that we go to Croatia and set the air conditioning to 20 degrees Celsius. Assuming that it is 32 degrees Celsius outside, it means a difference of 12 degrees Celsius, which is a thermal shock for the body and mucous membranes. This lowers immunity and promotes infection.
