It is harder for us to fall asleep in the heat. The high temperature also causes us to fall from side to side. In the morning we get up tired, because our body had no chance to regenerate. That’s why we sleep with the windows open, naked, but are these good ways? Maybe something else should be added? Laryngologist Patrycja Jackowska from Wrocław Medical Center answers these questions.

Ways to get the heat in the bedroom
The optimal situation on days when the outside is close to 30 degrees Celsius is to take care of the bedroom. It is worth protecting it against overheating. Close the windows, cover the blinds, blinds, curtains, and if possible, cover the windows with external roller blinds, an awning.

Does it make sense to open windows at night? And is it advisable for health reasons? Laryngologist Patrycja Jackowska from Wrocław Medical Center replies that yes. However, it is worth remembering about a small detail.
– The temperature is lower at night and in the late evening hours. It is worth opening the window to ventilate the room in order to circulate air. Fresh air affects the quality of sleep and night rest. However, drafts and temperature changes should be avoided, because such situations may cause infections of the upper respiratory tract, and even neuralgia, paralysis of the facial nerve – the doctor warns.
Not only open windows at night will help
It is also a good idea to hang wet sheets close to the window so that the incoming air has a chance to cool down. If you have a fan, turn it on, but remember not to sleep under it (draft). A bowl of ice placed next to the device may also help a bit, although the cubes will probably melt quickly. At home, switch off electrical devices, e.g. a computer, before going to bed – they emit heat (a small amount, but remember that you are struggling to lower it by every degree).
The heat – what do you sleep in, what makes the difference and under what conditions
There are people who literally flood the sweat at night. One of the causes of excessive sweating may be a poor diet. You can arrange it individually with a dietitian. However, if you feel that your health is fine, a good quality mattress would be a good solution. There are many such solutions available on the market, e.g. mattresses made of breathable foams with thermoregulation. This is definitely an investment, but your sleep comfort can improve. You can also put a mattress on the floor, it should be a little cooler there.
If you absolutely must cover yourself with bedding, choose cotton and silk. They are natural materials that are permeable to air. Satin-like materials, polyesters come off because although they feel “cold” to the touch, they are airtight and make us sweat even more.

A good way is to put the bedding covers in … the refrigerator. Of course, in separate bags so that it does not become saturated with smells. The second solution is to put a previously frozen hot water bottle under the sheet. Remember that frozen water increases in volume, so do not fill it “under the cork”.
Experts recommend that you go to bed without clothes on hot nights. If for various reasons this is not an option for you, wear something very airy and loose. Cotton and silk will also work in this case.
Relief may also be brought by pillows filled with buckwheat husk, which ensure adequate air circulation. On hot days, they will prevent you from sweating excessively.
