This legendary fairy tale is released in a restored version to the delight of young and old. The opportunity to dream in the company of Princess Aurora and the three good fairies, Flora, Pâquerette and Pimprenelle. Did you know that the character of Aurora was inspired by actress Audrey Hepburn? But, you will also tremble before Maleficent, the witch with immense powers.
Born of royal blood, Aurore receives from her good fairies, beauty and a voice of incomparable purity. Everything would be fine if Maleficent did not cast a spell on her: before she was 16, Aurore pricked her finger on a spinning wheel and died. Pimprenelle manages to lessen the spell by changing it: instead of dying, Aurora will fall into a deep sleep and she will be able to come out of it with a kiss of love.
Here, Perrault’s tale, directed by Walt Disney, takes on its chivalrous dimension. The hectic adventures take us into a world populated by spells and great strokes of the magic wand. Not to mention the impressive special effects for the time – the film was released in 1959 – with fire-breathing dragons, lightning and a lot of magic. For even more magic, this cartoon is punctuated by the enchanting music of the composer Tchaikovsky who created the ballet of Sleeping Beauty in the 19th century. A pretty story with thrills, to see as a family.
