How to use sounds for baby sleep

In this article, we will talk about sounds that help your baby fall asleep easier and faster, and sleep sounder and longer.

It is believed that calm, perhaps classical music helps to relax and fall asleep. This is not entirely true. The fact is that music is structured sounds, which means that our brain continues to “process” them even in a dream. That is, the brain continues to work, which means it does not relax.

What sounds relax the child’s nervous system and help to fall asleep faster?

This is the so-called white noise. For example, the sound of a waterfall, the rumble of a hair dryer or vacuum cleaner, the sound of rain.

Why is white noise soothing to children?

First, these are familiar sounds. Being in the mother’s stomach, the baby heard the beating of the mother’s heart and other monotonous repetitive sounds for all 9 months. And secondly, a monotonous unstructured sound stream relaxes the nervous system.

When to use white noise?

You can use BS from birth to any age, as long as it works to calm down.

It can be turned on during bedtime to relax your baby before sleep. And also to develop a habitual ritual of going to bed, that is, these sounds will be associated in the child with bedtime.

You can also leave the BS when the baby is already asleep. What for? BSH masks external sounds, so the risks are reduced that the child will wake up from the sharp barking of a dog slamming the door, and you will not have to be too quiet after bedtime.

You can leave BS for the entire daytime sleep of the crumbs. It will help connect sleep cycles and make daytime rest longer. It is not recommended to leave the BS all night. When you go to bed, make the BS gradually quieter and then turn it off, it is better to sleep in silence. However, at night, if the baby woke up, you can turn on the BS again to calm him down.

Safety regulations:

  1. Do not turn on the BS too loudly. The optimal volume level at a child’s ear is about 50 decibels – about the noise level of running water from a tap.
  2. Do not place the BS source too close to the child, the recommended distance from the child’s head is 1-1,5 meters.
  3. Do not use household appliances such as a hair dryer, vacuum cleaner to generate BS, it can be dangerous.
  4. Do not leave the BS all night, turn it off when you go to bed yourself.
  5. Do not turn on the BC during wakefulness, it is important for the child to clearly hear the sounds around him.
