To see the desired plot in a dream, “waking up inside”, as the hero of the film “Inception” did, is not necessary. You can choose a place and characters in advance, and then enjoy the spontaneous development of the plot. How? Jungian analyst Lev Khegai explains.
Three factors that will help «order» sleep
Some «order» dreams to get pleasure or a hint in solving an actual problem. Three factors will help you master this practice:
1. Set or Intent
You need to train your intention. Strengthen the determination to have a dream on the chosen topic: «I want to have a dream and I will see it tonight.» Repeating this statement many times, especially right before bed, acts like auto-suggestion and can help. You can reinforce self-hypnosis with direct suggestion: tell your friend about your intention and ask him to wish you to have a dream on the topic that you have named.
2. Working with images and developing the imagination in general
The language of dreams is primarily visual images. Scroll in your mind how you see a dream on an ordered topic with all the nuances of the plot. It is also worth imagining as vividly as possible the whole process — how you get ready for sleep, fall asleep and dream, and then wake up and remember.
3. Memory training
Physiologically, we see 3-4 dreams per night, but due to poor memory, we forget what exactly we saw. Therefore, when waking up, it is useful, without changing your posture, to scroll through a fresh dream in your head and then pronounce it in words in order to transfer it from a visual mode to a verbal one.
Only a “spoken” dream is guaranteed to remain in daytime consciousness. Very often, with such a memory of a dream, it is seen anew and, as it were, invented. This is the easiest way to master dreams «on order». But don’t criticize yourself for not being «quite» a night’s sleep, but a mixture of dream and imagination.
What should i avoid?
There are external and internal circumstances that prevent you from seeing what you have planned.
1. Extreme fatigue
It makes us fall into a dreamless sleep or, on the contrary, provokes insomnia.
2. Extraneous sounds, light
It is known that dreams inscribe the events of the outside world into their plot in order to preserve the state of the sleeper. A conversation in the next room or the howling of the wind in the window can change the course of events in your vision. Therefore, the recommendations here are the same as the general recommendations for sound sleep: it is good that the bedroom has sound and light insulation.
All these and similar actions distract us, and sometimes they charge us with strong emotions, which are then difficult to get rid of. So give yourself some rest time when you just lie in bed and look forward to the upcoming dream or fantasize about the place where it will unfold and about the characters that you will “call” into it.
4. Too much effort
Trying to think with all your might, you are more likely to disperse sleep than to plunge into it. Therefore, try to fantasize without tension, not so much creating your dreams as allowing yourself to slide smoothly into them. Even if you fail to see the ordered dream the first or second time, you will enjoy being in an intermediate state between sleep and wakefulness. And the ability to see dreams «by order» will come with time.
