Skinoren is an anti-acne drug intended for topical use. The active substance of the cream is azelaic acid. Skinoren is intended for adults and children from 12 years of age. Skinoren cream is antibacterial and prevents the formation of blackheads. Remember to apply it only to the skin.
Skinoren – composition
The active substance of Skinoren is azelaic acid. 1 g of cream contains 200 mg of this substance. In addition, Skinoren cream contains benzoic acid, macrogolglycerides, stearates, a mixture of nono-, di- and triglycerides of higher fatty acids, cetearyl octanoate, propylene glycol, glycerol 85% and purified water. Propylene glycol not only gives the appropriate consistency, but also together with 85% glycerol ensures skin hydration.
Skinoren – indications
The indication for the use of Skinoren cream is acne vulgaris as well skin discoloration. The cream is recommended for children and adolescents aged 12-18 years and adults.
Skinoren – action
Skinoren is antibacterial. The acid stops growth bacteria Propionibacterium Agnes. Its task is to inhibit hyperkeratosis of the epidermis. In addition, by using Skinoren, we limit the amount of free fatty acids on the surface of the skin, thanks to which less blackheads are also formed. Skinoren research showed that it inhibits the growth of keratinocytes and normalizes their terminal differentiation. Skinoren also stops the abnormal pigment cells in the epidermis from becoming overactive. However, this effect of Skinoren is dependent on the dose and duration of action of the active substance.
Unfortunately, the mechanism of this process has not been fully understood. In contrast, azelaic acid is known to treat hyperpigmentation by inhibiting DNA synthesis and / or by affecting the cellular respiration of these abnormal pigment cells. Thanks to its properties, it helps to effectively deal with changes in the skin, improving its appearance and condition.

Skinoren – dosage
Skinoren cream is only suitable for external use, i.e. on the skin. Before we apply the cream to the surface of the skin, it should be thoroughly washed and dried. You can use gentle skin cleansing preparations for this. Then remember to wash your hands thoroughly and wait for them to dry.
Unless your doctor tells you otherwise, apply a thin one Skinoren layer on the affected skin 2 times a day, preferably in the morning and evening. Skinoren must be gently massaged into the skin.
A 2,5 cm long strip, or about 0,5 g, is enough for the facial skin. This amount should be sufficient for the skin of the face. However, it should be remembered that when using Skinoren, it is always applied pointwise, and not on the entire face. Hands should be washed thoroughly after applying Skinoren.
If irritation occurs, reduce the frequency of use to once a day or stop using Skinoren for a few days until the annoying symptoms disappear.
Skinoren cream can be used for no longer than 6 months for the treatment of acne lesions. The duration of treatment depends on the severity of the lesions. Usually the improvement of the skin condition is visible after about 4 weeks. If Skinoren is used in the treatment of discoloration, it is worth remembering about the parallel use of sunscreen (preparations with UVA and UVB filters) for a period of at least 3 months.
