Skin types: how to determine? Video

For proper facial skin care and the selection of suitable cosmetic products, it is necessary to correctly determine its type. To do this, there are several simple ways that you can use yourself at home.

Skin types: how to determine?

Depending on the moisture content, as well as the amount of natural grease, facial skin types are conventionally divided into 4 types:

  • normal (healthy)
  • fatty
  • dry
  • mixed (combination) skin

An easy way to determine your skin type

To find out your skin type, you can do a simple test with tissue paper. At night, you need to wash and do not use cosmetics before the test. In the morning, rinse your face with warm water without using cosmetics. After that, after 3 hours, pieces of tissue paper are applied to the cheeks, forehead, chin, and the area around the wings of the nose. You need to lightly press it and hold it on your face for about 15 seconds.

If the skin is oily, the marks on the paper will be very intense, normal – even and moderate, dry – slightly noticeable. With the mixed type, the marks will be moderate in dry areas and more pronounced in oily areas.

If a thorough and intensive skin care is required, it is more effective to use the following test, which will help determine its additional features. To perform it, you should also wash yourself at night and do not apply cosmetics on your face. In the morning, take some tissue paper, a spoon, and a mirror.

As in the first test, the paper must be applied to the face. Then you need to check the degree of moisture saturation of the skin. To do this, slightly pinch the skin area in the area under the eyelid, and then release the formed fold. If the trail passes quickly enough, this indicates that there is no cause for concern. If it lasts more than 3 minutes, this means that the skin needs intense hydration.

The next step is to check the sensitivity of the skin. You need to press on it with a spoon in the forehead and cheeks. The more intense the marks remain, the longer they last, the more sensitive your skin is.

How to determine dry type of facial skin?

Dry skin is characterized by the following symptoms:

  • roughness and tendency to peel off
  • almost invisible pores
  • because of the wind and cold, she turns red, irritation appears on her
  • after washing, there is a feeling of tightness
  • at a young age, she looks thin, matte, delicate, not prone to acne
  • early appearance of wrinkles

Lack of vitamins, problems with the pancreas, the use of drying cosmetics, disruption of the gastrointestinal tract can lead to excessive dryness of the skin and its early wilting.

For the care of such skin, we recommend moisturizing and nourishing masks with biostimulants and vitamins, UV protection products with an SPF level of 20, as well as creams containing fatty acids and ceramides.

How to determine the combined type of facial skin?

Combination leather has the following features:

  • enlarged pores in the middle of the face
  • increased fat content in the T-zone, on the nose, forehead and chin
  • it looks dry around the eyes and on the cheeks
  • it gets fatter in summer than at other times of the year
  • in winter, dry areas of the skin are prone to flaking and excessive irritation
  • early wrinkles form around the eyes

With the combined type, it is recommended to use products for both oily and dry skin, respectively, for each part of the face.

How to determine oily skin type?

Oily skin is characterized by the following symptoms:

  • strong oily sheen that quickly appears even after washing
  • wide pores, the skin looks loose
  • a tendency to form comedones and acne
  • faded, grayish or yellowish complexion
  • she seems rather rude in appearance, while she is prone to irritation
  • late appearance of wrinkles

With age, oily skin usually improves, it becomes mixed.

Oily skin looks dirty and shiny due to increased greasiness. This type is prone to acne and acne breakouts. This skin often becomes inflamed before menstruation. However, wrinkles rarely appear on it, so it stays young longer.

For oily skin, a balanced diet is recommended, with a limited amount of flour and fatty foods. For care, it is advisable to use bactericidal agents – blue clay, tea tree oil, cleansing lotions, preparations with salicylic acid.

How to determine the normal type of facial skin?

Normal skin can be identified by the following:

  • sufficient firmness, smoothness and elasticity
  • it is matte, looks clean, fresh, as if glowing
  • pores are invisible, except for the area of the wings of the nose
  • resistance to environmental influences
  • there is no tendency to rashes and irritation

Normal skin has a pleasant pink color, it contains enough moisture and grease. This type usually does not give its owners any problems: there are no blackheads and wrinkles, the pores are invisible. The goal of normal skin care is to keep it healthy. Do not use too fatty products and dry it out.
