Skin mycosis is a skin disease caused by pathogenic fungi, the so-called dermatophytes or yeasts. The emergence of these 2 types of infections is different.

Diagnosis of mycosis of the skin

Dermatophytes can get on human skin from animals (dogs, cats, hamsters, guinea pigs, often even asymptomatically infected), from the ground (farmers, small children playing in the ground) or from person to person. The latter method of infection most often occurs through various objects. The factors contributing to mycosis of the skin are the individual tendency to sweat on the feet and the wearing of air-tight footwear made of plastics.

Mycosin Forte Cannaderm antifungal serum is used for the care of skin prone to mycosis – available at Medonet Market at an attractive price.

This is not the case yeast infections. The causes of them are fungi found on the mucous membranes and skin (especially in folds) of healthy people. They are present in a small number and then do not cause any lesions. Any factors that reduce the immune status (pregnancy, diabetes, long-term treatment with antibiotics, corticosteroids or cytostatics, cancer, AIDS, etc.) cause an imbalance between the host and yeast. Then they multiply excessively and cause lesions.

Mycological examination must always be the basis for the diagnosis of dermatophytosis. Hair, scales and nail scrapings are collected for the examination. A microscope slide and culture are made of them. We usually wait 2 days for the result of yeast culture, 3 weeks for dermatophytes. If the mycological test result is negative, but not consistent with the symptoms, the doctor may repeat the test 2-3 times.

important

The most common mistake is to start antifungal treatment before obtaining the results of mycological tests. If treatment is unsuccessful, it is often impossible to tell if it was initially dermatophytosis.

A common mistake (especially when treating foot or nail fungus) is re-infection from infected shoes. Prophylactically and as an auxiliary in treatment, reach for Zabłock brine soap for skin problems (dandruff, mycosis, eczema, psoriasis).

Skin mycoses can attack the hair, epidermis or nails. The most common forms are foot and nail mycosis.

Athlete’s foot

It is most often located in the last two interdigital spaces. The epidermis becomes white there, it peels off, sometimes you can see small bubbles. This causes itching. In other varieties, the skin lesions are located on the soles. You can observe erythema, vesicles, erosions, exfoliation, cracking of the epidermis.

Complications of untreated athlete’s foot are often distant allergic rashes (e.g. on the hands, face) and erysipelas.

Mycosis is very often associated with the occurrence of seborrheic dermatitis. In the case of ailments related to it, it is worth reaching for the EPTA DS face cream with seborrheic dermatitis, which you can buy separately or in the EPTA DS face and hair care set. We also recommend the EPTA DS scalp and body spray available alone or in the EPTA DS comprehensive skin and hair care kit with seborrheic dermatitis.

Nail fungus

It can be accompanied by athlete’s foot or independently of it.

Symptoms. Usually, at the beginning, the changes concern 1-2 nails, then they are transferred to the next ones. The nails change color (they become yellow, greenish or brown), lose their transparency, become keratinized on the underside, which makes them thicker and pinched. If dermatophytes are the cause, then the nail folds are not inflamed, when yeast – the nail folds are red, swollen, painful, sometimes a drop of pus comes out from under the pressure.

  1. The most common changes in the appearance of nails

In older people, there may be a special mycosis on the fingernails, the so-called akauliasis, causing a dark color of the nail plate in the form of a wider wedge at the free edge of the nail.

Changes that can be seen on all nails may be psoriasis. Then reach for the EPTA PSO Intensive Nail Conditioner with psoriasis, which you can buy separately or in the Set with 30% urea for body and nail care with EPTA PSO 30.

Worth knowing

Yeasts can affect the skin (yeast eruption especially in diabetics), nails and nail shafts, but most often they are located on the mucous membranes of the oral cavity or genitals.

Oral thrush

This yeast infection is mistakenly called thrush. It is most common in newborns and infants. Infection occurs during childbirth from the mother’s fungal discharge. White coatings resembling curdled milk appear in the mouth (on the inside of the cheeks, tongue and palate). After they are rubbed, the mucosa in this place is reddened, sometimes with erosions.

  1. The most common diseases of infants

Treatment. This form of yeast infection requires treatment, because sometimes, when a child is treated with antibacterial antibiotics, e.g. for otitis or bronchitis, the yeast infection may worsen and spread to the gastrointestinal tract or lungs.

Vulvovaginitis

It is a very common infection, especially in pregnant women. Its symptoms are cheesy discharge, inflammation of the vulvovaginal mucosa and severe itching. A yeast infection can spread not only to a newborn child, but also to a sexual partner in whom it causes a yeast inflammation of the glans and foreskin (erythema, swelling, white cheesy raids, pruritus). This form of yeast infection also occurs in older men with diabetes.

Pityriasis versicolor

It is a very common, superficial mycosis of the epidermis, caused by a special type of yeast called Malassezia furfur. People with delicate and sweaty skin are ill.

Symptoms. The most common lesions are small, rusty or pink spots, slightly scaly, located on the chest. They do not itch and are usually not noticed by the patient until after sunbathing healthy skin in the summer, the patient notices discoloration, bright spots in the place of previous eruptions. Very often, unnoticed outbreaks of tinea versicolor are also found on the scalp. They should be kept in mind during treatment, as they often cause recurrences, as well as non-disinfected underwear.

Treatment: special shampoos.

Are you looking for dermocosmetics for tinea versicolor? Medonet Market offers cosmetics for Pityver Tinea versicolor, such as shampoo, emulsion or skin lotion. In turn, for the care of skin prone to inflammatory changes, use the Blue Cap Body Spray for Skin Inflammation.
