Skin care after sugaring

It just seems – I went to the salon, did sugar hair removal and enjoy the delicate, velvety skin. After the procedure, microtraumas, rashes, and ingrown hairs may appear. How to care for the skin after shugaring to avoid unpleasant consequences?

Why is special care needed after shugaring?

The method of removing unwanted hairs with sugar paste came to us from the East. In the classic recipe – only sugar, water and lemon juice. Many do not even go to the salon, but perform shugaring at home (although we recommend that you trust the professionals in such a serious matter).
The hair is pulled out in the direction of growth, so it does not grow back as often as after waxing. In general, shugaring is considered a less painful procedure. But still, like any depilation, it is a strong stress for the skin, and with improper care, you may encounter problems such as:
  • irritation;

  • inflammation;

  • itching;

  • peeling;

  • ingrown hair;

  • the appearance of acne and pustules;

  • pigmentation.

What skin reaction is considered normal

The most typical reaction to shugaring is skin redness and slight itching. Ideally, everything should pass in 15-20 minutes. If it does not go away and other problems appear (see below), you need to consult a dermatologist.

What problems can arise

There is a small chance of mini-bruises (so that they do not remain, the composition must be torn off sharply without stretching the skin) and burns (the paste should be warm, but not hot), irritation. Allergic reactions (itching, peeling, small red pimples) appear if the composition does not suit your skin in principle – to avoid this, the product is first tested on a small area. All other problems (pimples, pustules, ingrown hairs, pigmentation) are usually associated with improper care after the procedure.

What not to do after shugaring

The first 2-4 days are prohibited:
  • sunbathe, visit the solarium;

  • go to the bath, sauna (hot air is completely useless to your skin now);

  • swim in the pool, rivers, lakes and the sea (an infection that gets into the wounds provokes acne and pustules);

  • exercise (sweat can cause irritation, diaper rash, and inflammation);

  • use deodorants (unless marked “after depilation / epilation) and alcohol lotions and tonics;

  • use scrubs and aggressive detergents (they injure the skin). To prevent ingrown hair, soft scrubs can be used only after 3-5 days, otherwise there will be more harm than good.

After shugaring, take precautions!

Can you wash?

You can take a shower a few hours after the procedure, but at the same time choose a mild remedy. You can not use brushes, washcloths. The water should be warm, never hot.

Is it possible to sunbathe?

Not like sunbathing – the first 2-4 days after shugaring you can’t appear in the sun without sunscreen at all! Otherwise, pigment spots may appear. To find out which SPF product is right for you, take our quiz.

Recommendations for skin care after sugar epilation

In order for the skin to recover faster and there are no problems, follow all the recommendations of the beautician. Specify how to treat the skin, what cosmetics to use in order to speed up recovery and prevent irritation, rashes, and ingrown hairs.

Come to the procedure in comfortable clothes.

First day

  1. Wear loose, loose-fitting clothing made from natural fabrics.

  2. Underwear (if the bikini area was treated) should in no case squeeze and rub the skin.

  3. A few hours after sugaring, you can take a warm, comfortable shower.

  4. After a shower, be sure to apply a soothing cream, for example, with panthenol and moisturizing ingredients.

On 2-4 day

Above, we wrote what not to do (sunbathe, play sports, visit a bathhouse, sauna, swimming pool, swim in open springs, use scrubs, deodorants and aggressive detergents). What can and should be done?
  1. Treat the skin with a soft scrub (starting from the 3rd day).

  2. Use a cream or fluid with moisturizing and soothing ingredients 2-3 times a day.

  3. In case of pimples and rashes, consult a doctor.

Later

  1. Continue to use scrubs (once a week), moisturizers and emollients (every day). If the hair still grows, apply a cream with fruit acids.

  2. In no case do not shave off growing hair, do not use depilatory creams – this will only make the hair harder and it will be more difficult to remove them.

  3. Strictly adhere to the schedule: carry out shugaring every 3-4 weeks. After some time, hair growth will slow down and they will become thinner.

Do not forget to exfoliate the skin 3-5 days after the procedure.

Features of care for different parts of the body

Depending on which areas the procedure was performed, care may vary slightly.

Bikini area

First 2-4 days:

  • wear spacious (albeit not so beautiful and stylish) cotton underwear, do not wear thongs, in general – as little as possible constraining clothing;

  • do not take a hot shower and even more so a bath;

  • if rashes appear, consult a doctor;

  • After 4 days, scrub the skin with a soft scrub.

The skin in the bikini area is very sensitive, after the procedure you need to carefully care for it.

Legs, hands

First 2-4 days:

  • do not sunbathe, wear long sleeves, trousers, use sunscreen;

  • after showering, apply a moisturizing and soothing cream;

  • Exfoliate your skin after 4 days.

Face

First 2-4 days:

  • spend at home, go out in the sun only with sunscreen on your face;

  • 2-3 times a day, use moisturizing, soothing creams and fluids;

  • after 4 days, treat the skin with a soft scrub.

After the procedure, use only special deodorants.

Underarm area

First 2-4 days:

  • discard deodorant if it is not intended for the skin after epilation / depilation, use baby powder;

  • if pimples or irritation still appear (and this can theoretically happen due to the fact that sweat is a favorable environment for the development of microorganisms), consult a doctor;

  • wear loose clothing made from natural fabrics;

  • Exfoliate your skin after 4 days.

How to Prepare for Your Next Hair Removal Treatment

After 3-4 weeks the procedure is recommended to be repeated – the hair has already grown enough, and the skin has recovered.

How to understand that the skin is ready for the next procedure?

Skin regeneration

You can talk about it when redness, rashes etc. On the eve of waxing, exfoliate the skin with an anti-hair growth product, take a shower and use a softening lotion and cream.

Sufficient hair length

For the procedure to be successful, the hairs must be long enough – no shorter than 5 mm.

Regular scrub

A body scrub can be considered an ingrown hair prevention, not to mention the other benefits of skin exfoliation. But you should not abuse it – once or twice a week is enough.

Moisturizing the skin

To easily endure all aesthetic procedures, the skin must be properly moisturized. Only hydrated skin is able to fully function and cope with stress.
