- The main thing in skating is to keep your balance. To do this, take the following stance: back straight, legs shoulder-width apart, knees slightly bent, rollers parallel to each other. The body should be slightly tilted forward, thus. the center of gravity of the body will be in front. This stance eliminates the risk of falling onto your back and provides balance.
- Stand in the original stance: lift your right leg (if you are right-handed), take a small step forward to the right, while straightening the other leg (pushing off the ground with your left foot). Take a push, take the starting position – only it is no longer static, but in motion – and repeat all over again with a change of legs. At the initial stage, the movement will resemble a pendulum – you will roll, swinging from side to side.
- After making one push, do not rush to do the next – try to roll as long as possible. On roller skates you need to ride, not “walk”.
- Try to help yourself with your hands: if the right leg goes forward (push with the left leg), then the left hand moves forward, and the right one – back.
- The simplest and most reliable braking is to use the standard roller brake. It is usually attached to the right leg. To brake, you need to take the initial stance, transfer your body weight to your left leg, lean forward a little more than usual and then, smoothly straightening your right leg, move it forward, placing it on the heel. It is very important to remember about balance: when braking, it is easy to fall on your back.
To avoid injury, the following rules must be followed:
- Warm up before riding. A “warmed-up” organism is less prone to injury. It will be enough to do 10-15 squats, several stretching exercises and a complex of bends.
- Practice good hygiene and wear clean socks when rollerblading.
- Don’t ride for long. As soon as you feel tired in the muscles, stop.
- Always wear protection on your elbows, knees, hands.
- Do not accelerate faster than the speed at which you could stop at a distance of 1-2 meters.
- Avoid descending stairs, slides, driving on uneven asphalt, as well as on the roadway.
- Perform any new exercise at a low speed and level surface at first, there should be no fences or other obstacles nearby.
- Avoid slippery areas and puddles, as they can cause injury.
