Six ways to lift your spirits

Our mood depends on many factors: health, environment, other people’s actions, weather, and so on. It’s not always possible to stay positive, but there are a few simple ways that will make life less bad days.

You don’t need a million dollars to enjoy life. A good mood is not sold in the supermarket: you can get it for free if you make a couple of valuable habits. All you have to do is follow a few simple rules.

1. Make your bed every morning

“Me too, valuable advice! Well, how will my mood change from this? ”, – some will grunt. Imagine, it will change – an elementary action sets a positive tone for the whole day. Research confirms the exceptional importance of this habit.

Such a household trifle creates a feeling of a structured and orderly life. Just think, making the bed, we are accustomed to organization! Turn this duty into a ritual, and very soon it will no longer seem boring.

2. Do not forget to have breakfast

A light breakfast is a great start to the day, because the body needs to receive nutrients in order to tune in to vigorous activity. Start eating breakfast in the morning and you will see that vigor and energy will immediately increase.

3. Go in for sports

Choose an activity you like: fitness, yoga, swimming, running or cycling – and your condition will improve several times. Mental and physical endurance will increase, which means you will become calmer and more productive.

4.Add some light

Daylight significantly affects our emotions and mood. Even in cloudy weather, it is recommended to open the curtains in the morning to let as much light into the house as possible.

This is especially important for those who work from home. If the room is twilight, performance drops, covers apathy and drowsiness. Therefore, you need to make sure that your space is filled with light.

5. Smile (even when you don’t feel like it)

“Facial expressions work because the brain detects the contraction of the facial muscles (in particular, the zygomatic muscle, which raises the corners of the mouth when smiling) and recognizes this signal as: “Something made me happy,” neuroscientist Alex Korb explains in the book “Ascending Spiral” . “Accordingly, if this muscle is motionless, the brain believes that there is nothing to rejoice about.”

Even if you don’t have much fun, but you stretch your lips into a smile, many passers-by will begin to smile back, and this will certainly cheer you up.

6. Show gratitude

Gratitude is a very effective mood enhancer. Thanks to her, the brain begins to intensively produce antidepressant neurotransmitters. By practicing gratitude, we ourselves become happier and create good relationships with others.

“Everything is interconnected. Grateful people sleep more peacefully. Sleep reduces pain. The less pain, the better our mood, explains Alex Korb. – A good mood reduces the level of anxiety, which means you can focus and think logically. Concentration and logic help to make the right decisions. When the decision is made, the anxiety finally dissipates and gives way to pleasure. Pleasure brings gratitude. Thus, a new round of the ascending spiral is created. When we are happy with life, we become more active and friendly, which means we feel happy.”
