Sip of soda: how soft drinks affect your health

Everyone knows that carbonated drinks such as Coca-Cola, Sprite and the like (including “diet” ones) fill us with a huge amount of calories and do not bring any benefit. But this is only part of the problem. Such drinks can cause a large number of diseases. Here is some of them.

Asthma

Carbonated drinks contain sodium benzonate, which is used as a preservative. Sodium preservatives add sodium to the diet and reduce potassium. Scientists note that sodium benzonate often causes allergic rashes, asthma, eczema, and other reactions.

Kidney problems

Cola is high in phosphoric acid, which can cause kidney stones and other kidney problems.

Excess sugar

Twenty minutes after drinking soda, blood sugar rises sharply, leading to a powerful release of insulin into the bloodstream. The liver reacts to this by converting sugar into fat.

After 40 minutes, the caffeine absorption is complete. Pupils dilate, blood pressure rises – and, as a result, the liver throws even more sugar into the blood. Now the adenosine receptors in the brain are blocked and you don’t feel sleepy.

Obesity

The link between soda consumption and obesity is undeniable, with researchers even finding that every bottle of cola you drink increases your risk of obesity by 1,6 times. Meanwhile,

70% of cases of cardiovascular disease are caused by being overweight;

42% of breast and colon cancer cases are found in obese patients;

30% of gallbladder surgeries are performed due to diseases associated with obesity.

Problems with teeth

The sugar and acid in carbonated drinks will dissolve tooth enamel.

Heart diseases

Most fizzy drinks contain fructose syrup, a sweetener that has recently come under scrutiny. High fructose syrup has been shown to increase the risk of insulin resistance syndrome, which in turn is more likely to lead to heart disease and diabetes.

Diabetes

People who drink a lot of carbonated drinks have an 2% higher risk of developing type 80 diabetes.

Reproductive system diseases

Soda cans are coated with a compound containing bisphenol A. It is a carcinogen that disrupts the endocrine system, can lead to early puberty and cause reproductive system abnormalities.

Osteoporosis

Carbonated drinks contain phosphoric acid, and its high content leads to weakened bones and an increased risk of osteoporosis. When phosphorus is excreted in the urine from the body, calcium is also excreted along with it, which deprives the bones and the body as a whole of this important mineral.
