Sinus tachycardia of the heart: what is it, what is dangerous in a child
This is the name of the type of arrhythmia, in which the number of heartbeats increases, while maintaining a normal rhythm. It does this by increasing the activity of the sinus node, the part of the heart that controls the heartbeat.
Sinus tachycardia of the heart: what is it?
The sinus node is a collection of nerve cells that send signals to the muscle tissue of the heart, causing them to contract. It is located in the area above the right atrium.
An increase in the work of the sinus is not always associated with a pathology of the heart, it may have other reasons:
- Stressful state. Nervous strain causes excitation of sinus cells. Heart palpitations can become chronic in case of constant stress.
- Disruption of the thyroid gland. It is accompanied by the release of a hormone that affects the heart rate.
- Intoxication of the body. May be the result of alcohol, nicotine, or drugs. The same effect is exerted by infectious diseases, accompanied by an increase in temperature, anemia, and a decrease in pressure.
- After physical activity. Also, this symptom can occur when getting out of bed after a long stay in a horizontal position.
Cardiogenic manifestations of sinus tachycardia of the heart are more dangerous than single short-term physiological disorders. They may be talking about heart failure. Pathology is manifested by a feeling of palpitations, dizziness, and anxiety. But the correct diagnosis can only be made by passing an ECG.
Causes of sinus tachycardia of the heart in a child
In a newborn, the heart rate differs from that of an adult – an increase in the rhythm of more than 170 beats per minute is considered a pathology. It can be caused by various factors:
- emotional stress, fatigue;
- fear;
- temperature drops or stuffy room;
- care manipulations, swaddling;
- physical activity.
Most often, these manifestations are not dangerous and disappear over time. If a child has a heart condition, a fast heart rate may be one of the symptoms. But in this case, the pathology will manifest itself in a state of physical and emotional rest.
When a symptom occurs once, it is most likely caused by external factors. With a constant increase in rhythm, you need to see a doctor. Timely started treatment will avoid the appearance of heart failure.
