Sinus diseases are very troublesome. This is one of the most difficult places to clean, which means that after each cold, a layer of mucus remains in the sinuses, which turns into a hard consistency over time. As a result, they fill up with a dense mass that accumulates and promotes the multiplication of increasing amounts of bacteria. Accumulated mucus becomes the cause of headaches and sinuses, impaired smell and taste, as well as general malaise.
The most common symptoms of sinusitis include:
- Specific, usually watery and transparent nasal discharge (if the cause is a virus infection).
- Prolonged runny nose.
- Recurrent headaches.
- Intense pain around the bridge of the nose and forehead.
- Ailments that worsen in the morning.
- Secretion that flows down the back of the throat causing frequent grunting and chronic coughing.
- Headache that worsens when bending over.
- When sinusitis is caused by bacteria, the discharge becomes purulent and thick.
- Inflammation involving the frontal, ethmoid and maxillary sinuses.
- Pain in the area of the forehead indicating inflammation of the frontal sinuses, and pain in the upper jaw area, pain in the cheeks when pressed, and also in the teeth indicate an infection of the maxillary sinuses.
- The disease may also be accompanied by symptoms such as lack of appetite, general breakdown, weakness and fever.
How to clean the sinuses?
Sinus cleaning should become part of the morning hygiene routine, especially when a person suffers from long-term problems with a runny nose. It’s not the easiest thing to do, but there is a proven home remedy to keep your sinuses clean:
- Pour 400 milliliters of warm water into the teapot.
- Dissolve a teaspoon of salt (any kind) in it. You can also add 4 drops of iodine.
- Place the teat on the spout of the teapot, in which you must first make a hole with a diameter of approx. 3 mm (do it, for example, with a needle).
- Then lean your head (exactly the left cheek) over the sink/toilet/tub/bowl.
- Open your mouth while placing the tip of the nipple in your right nostril.
- The salt water solution will flow through the frontal sinus, maxillary sinus, and out of the left nostril.
- Repeat with the other nostril.
In addition, it is worth using water vapor inhalations, preferably with the addition of herbs, camphor oil, or a bit of salt. How to do it? With your head covered with a towel, lean over the bowl and breathe deeply. When the water vapor begins to work, the secretion from the nose will begin to clear. Other recommended methods are drinking plenty of water (it will also dilute what is left in the sinuses) and using warm compresses in the form of, for example, linen bags filled with salt or mustard.
