Sineglazka potatoes, variety description and characteristics
There are a great many varieties of potatoes, but this one is probably known to every summer resident in Russia – “Sineglazka”. The potato gets its name from the blue-violet eyes that are located on the surface of the root crop. Unfortunately, due to the lack of long-term storage capacity, the variety is not allowed to be cultivated on an industrial scale. Now he is bred only on personal plots, but is still loved by gardeners.
Description of the potato variety “Sineglazka”
“Sineglazka” is a mid-season potato variety, undemanding in care and growing conditions. The tubers are oval, grayish-pink in color, with few eyes on their surface. The flesh of the fruit is white on the cut.
“Sineglazka” can be confidently called a universal variety, it is excellent for both cooking and frying and baking. The high content of B vitamins, protein and other trace elements necessary for a person makes it not only tasty, but also useful
The disadvantages of this variety include insufficient keeping quality, degeneration of the planting material and susceptibility to damage by the wireworm. It seems impossible to get new planting material through nurseries; this can be done only through amateur gardeners.
Characteristics of Sineglazka potatoes
The aboveground part of the plant grows in the form of bushes with powerful stems and abundant greenery. Medium-sized leaves are dark green in color. Inflorescences are formed a little, respectively, there are practically no berries.
The Sineglazka variety has the following characteristics:
- the average ripening period is from 90 to 115 days;
- color of flowers – light blue;
- starch content – 10-15%;
- the weight of one tuber is 100-200 g;
- yield – on average 400-500 kg per one hundred square meters of land;
- keeping quality – medium, potatoes are poorly stored in large volumes;
- disease resistance – high.
The method of growing potatoes from seeds has proven itself well. This is an excellent opportunity to update the planting material and improve its quality. Good immunity allows the variety to avoid diseases such as late blight, scab.
