Silver nitrate, also known as hellstone or lapis, is an inorganic salt of nitric acid and silver, which is commonly used, among others in pharmaceuticals, medicine, dentistry, as well as analytical chemistry, photography.

Properties and application of silver nitrate

whip srebra it comes in the form of clear crystals or white powder. It dissolves very well in water and has oxidizing properties. It is corrosive to the skin and leaves hard-to-wash black spots on it, which is why it was named hellstone.

Solution silver nitrate in the past, it was used to prevent bacterial and burn wounds from becoming infected. Due to the unavailability of antibiotics, it was used primarily in military hospitals during the First World War. Currently whip srebra it is used during the lapping of deciduous teeth that have become decayed. This treatment makes the carious lesions regress and the tooth mass begins to harden. In addition, it does not cause stress and pain to which a child could be exposed during, for example, tooth extraction.

The salt of nitric acid and silver is also used as an aseptic during the Crede treatment. This is a routine procedure to put a 1% solution into the eyes of a newborn baby silver nitrateto prevent gonococcal conjunctivitis. The baby is at risk of contracting this dangerous disease when passing through the birth canal of a mother who has been diagnosed with the gonorrhea bacteria. Untreated, it can lead to corneal puncture, blindness, and contribute to the development of dangerous general changes – sepsis, arthritis or meningitis.

whip srebra It is also used as a strong oxidizing compound during cauterization (cauterization), which consists in burning diseased tissue or granulating wounds in order to close bleeding blood vessels or destroy unnecessary warts, erosions, and growths.

There are specifics in the market with content silver nitrate, e.g. Mikulicz’s ointment, which accelerates wound healing, as well as sticks used as an auxiliary in the treatment of warts, common warts and condylomas. However, do not use them without consulting your doctor as they can cause a severe allergic reaction

In addition to medicine and pharmaceuticals, the solution of nitric acid and silver salts is used in the preparation of emulsions by alternative photographic techniques, e.g., albumin, wet collodion or salt paper. whip srebra is used to obtain other silver compounds and to detect aldehydes in analytical chemistry. In addition, it is used for silvering mirrors, the production of explosives, e.g. silver acetylide, and for the preparation of silver halides.
