Because yours is about to break – take a closer look!
Just imagine what our life would turn into without a refrigerator: neither cook soup a day in advance, nor freeze stocks for future use. I don’t even want to think about it. We are so accustomed to this white purring animal in the kitchen that without it it is as if we had no hands. Fortunately, this device usually serves for a very long time, it is not necessary to think about replacing it for decades. Moreover, the refrigerator itself warns that its affairs are bad, in advance. And this is how he does it.
Freezer is freezing too much
Sounds like an oxymoron, but it is. The optimum temperature in the freezer is -18 degrees. If the food is stored for a really long time, it can be lowered. But at the same time, no ice formation should form inside the chamber. If, nevertheless, ice builds up, so much so that you sometimes have to forcefully tear off the door, then you have a problem. Perhaps it’s just a seal on the door. If it is worn out, then warm humid air seeps into the chamber, because of this, and ice. But it may also be that the thermoregulation system is faulty. You cannot fix this on your own, you need the help of a specialist.
Can you hear him
Soviet refrigerators turned on and off with such a sound that everyone in the house shuddered. Since then, fortunately, a lot has changed and the sound of the refrigerator no longer resembles the roar of an airplane taking off. But if suddenly you catch yourself that the device no longer works with a purr, but sounds a little louder, this is a bad sign. It is possible that the engine is living out its last days.
The back wall heats up
It should be slightly warmer than the rest of the body, but not much. If the back wall is noticeably hot, this may be a malfunction: overheating occurs due to problems with the condenser, heat exchangers or ventilation system. The simplest preventive measure is to regularly clean the grill on the back wall, remove dust from it, which the refrigerator attracts like a magnet. Such a simple action can really significantly extend the life of the device.
Electricity bills are suddenly rising
Defective equipment can consume much more electricity than usual. If the seals on the doors are damaged, there are problems with the condenser or thermostat, the refrigerator will work harder, trying to maintain the set temperature inside. This will lead not only to increased electricity consumption, but also to accelerated engine wear. By the way, seals last longer if you wipe them regularly: mold grows on them due to constantly sticking dirt, and the seal breaks.
It’s too damp inside
If condensation or frost appears on the inner walls, this is a reason to immediately be alert. The matter may be in a bad seal, and in global problems. To find out what’s what, the test with the banknote will help: if the door reliably holds a hundred-ruble note, then the matter is in the internal details of the refrigerator. If so, then you need to call the repairman as soon as possible so as not to waste precious time and fix the problems in time.
Food spoils too quickly
If so, then, apparently, the proper temperature is not maintained inside. The problem can be in the relay, and in the temperature sensors, and in the capacitor. And here it is likely that the repair will cost no less than buying a new refrigerator. Sadly, sometimes you have to part with old friends.
Your refrigerator is over 10 years old
Everything, even household appliances, has an expiration date. For a refrigerator, it is 10–20 years old. Usually the period is indicated in the instruction manual, or it can be found on the manufacturer’s website. However, in the event of serious technical problems, the life of the refrigerator can be reduced to five to six years.
Which shortens the life of the refrigerator
proximity to heating appliances or stove;
irregular washing;
you put hot food inside.
