Signs of good health in dogs
The dog must have clean ears
The inside of a healthy dog’s ears should be pale pink in color, clean, and contain little earwax. If the latter contributes to the good balance of the auditory canal thanks to its bacteriostatic and fungistatic properties (= it suspends the development of bacteria and fungi), it can, in large quantities, reveal an infection of the ear, otitis being the more common. Certain behaviors should also alert the handler, for example if the dog keeps its head tilted or often scratches its ear. Ear disease in dogs has a prevalence of around 15-20%1, which supposes more vigilance. Some breeds are more prone to these conditions, such as Cockers because of their drooping ears, or Poodles because of their hair in their ears. It is therefore important to regularly check the condition of the dog’s ears, and to gently clean them if necessary with a specially adapted product.
