Alcohol intoxication seems to be a natural and common consequence of drinking alcohol, but in fact, it is a serious poisoning of the body, which in some cases can even lead to death. Therefore, it is important to know the signs of intoxication in order to be able to stop in time.
The main stages of intoxication
1. Euphoria. It comes after 1-3 servings of alcohol, depending on the gender, age, weight of the taster and the duration of the breaks between the “approaches”.
A serving of alcohol is 10 ml of pure ethyl alcohol, which is approximately 100 ml of non-fortified wine, including sparkling wine, 425 ml of light beer with a strength of up to 3%, 285 ml of beer with a strength of 3-5%, 60 ml of fortified wine, 30 ml of alcohol with a strength of 40%.
With euphoria, a person’s tongue “unties”, self-confidence increases, reaction slows down, short-term memory worsens, self-preservation instinct decreases. People say that a drinker is “drunk”, and he is “drawn to exploits”.
2. Excitation. Comes after 2-5 servings of alcohol. Accompanied by emotional instability, slight loss of coordination, blurred vision, drowsiness. There may be temporary problems with memory – in this condition, it can be difficult for a person to remember something, it is difficult for him to stand straight and maintain balance when walking. Logic is violated in reasoning, cause-and-effect relationships are lost.
3. Confusion of consciousness. To reach this stage, the average man needs more than five drinks in an hour, the average woman more than four. Signs are inadequate and overly emotional reactions to the environment, a significant loss of coordination, up to the point that a person cannot physically stand, loss of orientation in space and connection with reality. Usually, by this moment, the participant in the feast is already very “bad”: sick or sick, hot, hard to breathe.
4. Stupor. A person completely loses control over his body and is not responsible for the reactions of the body. A taster who has gone overboard vomits, convulsions may begin, the skin turns blue, breathing becomes uneven. At this stage of intoxication, immediate medical attention is already required. If you do not contact a specialist, coma and even death may occur.
The most obvious signs of intoxication
The following signs make it possible to determine with a sufficient degree of certainty that the interlocutor is already well “under the fly”:
- unhealthy blush on the face;
- unusual and/or aggressive behavior;
- loss of control over emotions;
- uncoordinated movements, unsteady staggering gait, difficulty in performing actions that require fine motor skills.
Each of these signs individually can indicate a disease (or nothing at all), but two or more at once is almost a XNUMX% guarantee that the interlocutor is drunk.
How to understand that you are drunk
From the outside, everything may already be obvious, but the one who treats himself to alcohol will think “I drink and drink something, and I don’t get drunk at all.”
The easiest way to control your own drunkenness is not to drink more than one serving of alcohol per hour.
However, this is easier said than done – after so much drinking, there is almost no effect (in many countries, after one serving, you can even drive), so it seems that the second glass will not hurt in any way, it’s not far from the third, fourth, etc. .d.
Therefore, several physical tests can be carried out:
- Touch your finger to the tip of your nose with your eyes closed.
- Walk in a straight line.
- Stand for 30 seconds on one leg.
Emotionally, a sure sign can be an uncontrollable desire to tell the details of your personal life to everyone around, including unfamiliar people.
Scientific Methods
The most accurate and reliable way to determine intoxication is to use a breathalyzer. Such a device can be bought at a pharmacy or via the Internet, sometimes breathalyzers are available in nightclubs and bars.
