COVID-19 vaccine from Pfizer – possible side effects

The Pfizer vaccine is a preparation that is administered in two doses, and its effectiveness is over 90%. The manufacturer’s leaflet contains a list of possible side effects after administration of the COVID-19 vaccine.

Reported symptoms with the Pfizer vaccine include:

  1. pain at the injection site
  2. fatigue
  3. headache
  4. muscle pain
  5. chills
  6. arthralgia
  7. fever
  8. swelling at the injection site
  9. redness at the injection site
  10. nausea
  11. bad mood
  12. enlarged lymph nodes (lymphadenopathy)

The manufacturer of the vaccine advises that a severe allergic reaction may also occur after its administration, which occurs within an hour of the injection of Pfizer. Symptoms of a severe allergic reaction to the coronavirus vaccine include:

  1. difficulties with breathing
  2. swelling of the face and throat
  3. fast heart rate
  4. severe rash all over the body
  5. dizziness and weakness

COVID-19 Moderny vaccine – possible side effects

The Moderny vaccine works in a similar way to the Pfizer preparation. Two doses of Moderny are required to achieve resistance to the coronavirus. The effectiveness of this preparation is over 90%.

As with the Pfizer vaccine, the Moderna vaccine can also cause certain side effects. They are listed in the manufacturer’s leaflet. The symptoms after administration of the preparation include:

  1. pain, tenderness and enlargement of the lymph nodes in the vaccinated arm
  2. swelling (hardening) and redness
  3. fatigue
  4. headache
  5. muscle pain
  6. pain in the joints
  7. chills
  8. nausea and vomiting
  9. fever 

A severe allergic reaction that may occur within an hour of administration of the preparation includes symptoms such as:

  1. difficulties with breathing
  2. swelling of the face and throat
  3. fast heart rate
  4. severe rash all over the body
  5. dizziness and weakness

The package leaflet states that the product should not be administered if the patient is allergic to the active substance or any of the other ingredients of this vaccine. Be careful and consult your doctor or pharmacist when:

  1. you have ever had a severe, life-threatening allergic reaction after injection of any other vaccine or after receiving COVID-19 Vaccine Moderna in the past;
  2. you have a weakened or impaired immune system
  3. if you have ever fainted after putting any needle in it;
  4. you have a coagulation disorder;
  5. you have a high fever or a severe infection; however, you may be vaccinated if you have a mild fever or an upper respiratory infection such as a cold;
  6. you have any serious illness;
  7. you have injection anxiety.

AstraZeneki COVID-19 vaccine – possible side effects

The AstraZeneki vaccine is the most controversial among all the preparations approved for use in the European Union. It is a vector preparation administered in two doses, and its effectiveness is approx. 80% (while the effectiveness of protection against the severe course of COVID-19 – 100%).

With the AstraZeneki vaccine, you hear about side effects relatively often. The product leaflet informs about symptoms that may occur after vaccination. The list includes:

  1. tenderness, pain, warmth, itching or bruising at the injection site
  2. feeling tired (weariness) or generally feeling unwell
  3. chills or a feeling of fever
  4. headache
  5. feeling sick (nausea)
  6. joint pain or muscle pain
  7. swelling or redness at the injection site
  8. fever (> 38 ° C)
  9. vomiting or diarrhea
  10. drowsiness or dizziness
  11. decreased appetite
  12. enlarged lymph nodes
  13. excessive sweating, itchy skin or rash

The manufacturer also mentions the symptoms of a strong allergic reaction. If they appear, the patient should seek immediate medical attention. Urgent contact with a doctor is necessary when at least one of the following symptoms appears:

  1. feeling faint or light-headed
  2. Heart arythmia
  3. dyspnoea
  4. wheezing
  5. swelling of the lips, face or throat
  6. hives or rash
  7. nausea or vomiting
  8. abdominal pain

The list of possible side effects of AstraZeneki, published by the European Medicines Agency, also includes Guillain-Barré syndrome, pain in the legs, arms and stomach, and flu-like symptoms.

When not to get the AstraZeneca vaccine? The package leaflet states that it is forbidden “if the patient is allergic to the active substance or any of the other ingredients in this vaccine”.

Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 Vaccine – Possible Side Effects

Johnson & Johnson vaccine is the fourth preparation approved for use in the European Union. It is a single-dose preparation, the effectiveness of which is estimated at 66%.

As with other COVID-19 vaccines, Johnson & Johnson can also have side effects. The hooked ones may show:

  1. pain, swelling or redness of the skin after injection
  2. fatigue
  3. muscle pain
  4. fever
  5. nausea

With the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, severe allergic reactions similar to those associated with the Pfizer and Moderna preparations have also been reported rarely.

The European Medicines Agency, after reports from the US, also investigated the link between J&J vaccination and the occurrence of blood clots. It turned out that there was a possible link, but unusual blood clots are very rare.

Side effects such as enlarged lymph nodes, superficial sensory disturbances, tinnitus, diarrhea and vomiting also appear on the list of possible side effects published by the European Medicines Agency.
