The coronavirus outbreak continues to take its death toll. There have already been 102 million infections worldwide. In Poland, 1 million 508 thousand. 674 are infected. This week, the government decided that shopping malls will be able to operate from February 1. Hotels, restaurants and the fitness industry remain closed. We asked the prime minister’s advisor and infectious diseases specialist, prof. Krzysztof Simon.
– You can’t completely crush the economy. Galleries of individual elements of the economy need to be slowly opened. The more that our epidemiological situation is getting better compared to other European countries. Of course, if it turns out that the incidence increases sharply, it will have to be withdrawn – said Krzysztof Simon.
Most infections in restaurants
According to Simon, restaurants are suffering the most from the coronavirus epidemic. – Restaurants with the highest number of infections are therefore closed. Many restaurateurs have switched to take-away services. They have fewer customers. Responsibility for this situation is, in a way, borne by people who did not respect the distance and the wearing of masks. The irresponsible behavior of our society is a big problem. Young people who are mildly ill tend to downplay safety rules, said Simon.

– We need to help this branch of services to keep the workplace. Some should be rearranged into a take-away service, outdoor sales, etc. We should slowly open the most controversial places, such as: ski slopes. The point is for people to earn money and for the economy to function, he added.
