Shingles – Will I Get Additional Symptoms?

For eight days now I have had a small cluster of pustules on my forehead.

Good day. I am 32 years old, I am a man. For eight days now I have had a small cluster of pustules on my forehead. Diagnosed shingles. In addition, for four days there has been swelling of the right side of the face (trigeminal nerve) and a slight pain when touching the buccal-parotid area. I have been receiving Heviran for two days. I do not have a fever. The question is, is the eighth day after the appearance of the forehead rash still a time when I can expect further development of the disease, e.g. new rash clusters? How long can facial swelling last? How long is it required to separate a pregnant wife (30 weeks)? I will be grateful for your response. – Octavian

Shingles is a viral disease caused by reactivation of the varicella zoster virus (VZV) infection. It can develop in adults who have had chickenpox in childhood. Shingles is much less contagious than chickenpox, and the contagious material is fluid from the vesicles on the skin. Sowing skin lesions in herpes zoster takes about 7 days, in your situation the risk of new vesicular lesions is small, although it should be remembered that you remain contagious until all the blisters heal. Swelling of the face and pain in the areas affected by skin lesions may persist for several weeks.

The question of isolating a pregnant spouse depends on whether or not she had childhood chickenpox. If she is immunized, she will not get shingles from you, if she did not have smallpox or was vaccinated against it before she became pregnant, there is a risk of contracting the virus and developing chicken pox. The risk is approximately 1/1000. In such a situation, however, the wife should be separated from the Lord from the moment of the appearance and rupture of the first bubbles (as already mentioned above, the fluid contained in them is an infectious material), until the last changes heal (which should be covered with clothes or dressings) . Pregnant women who are not immune are also given specific immunoglobulin against the VZV virus, at the latest 4 days after contact with the patient (especially for varicella, which is highly contagious).
