Shark Tooth (Shark Tus or Shark Tooth)

Rum drink Shark Tooth is made especially for Russia. It was created by blenders of the British concern Diageo, the largest alcohol producer. Diageo currently holds 20,63% of the Russian rum market.

Shark Tooth is not rum, but a strong rum drink (40%). The Caribbean rum contained in it cannot completely hide the alcohol sharpness of taste and smell. In addition, the rum is unaged, artificial flavors and dyes are added to it. Therefore, Shark Tooth should not be served as a digestif and should not be drunk undiluted. But it is suitable for cocktails, which gives a spicy flavor of rum.

Historical reference. The Diageo concern owns many well-known alcoholic brands, among which is the famous Captain Morgan rum. Marketing research shows that Russian consumers are interested in rum, but for many the price of the drink seems too high. Diageo specialists were tasked with creating a “budget version” of rum, high-quality and affordable.

It turned out that if you import rum into Russia not in bottles, but in large containers, and bottle it on the spot, then only by reducing transportation costs can you reduce the cost by 15-20%. As a partner, Diageo management chose the Russian company Ladoga, which was founded in 1995 and currently produces more than 100 types of alcoholic beverages. The new drink was called Shark Tooth – “Shark Tooth”.

The production of Shark Tus rum drink began in April 2013. Young Caribbean rum is supplied to the Ladoga enterprise, located in the vicinity of St. Petersburg, here it is diluted with high-quality ethyl alcohol of the Lux class and bottled. The bottle of a strict form is decorated with a bright label depicting a swimming shark.

Since the end of 2015, Diageo has also been cooperating with the Saransk Distillery.
