PSYchology

Despite the abundance of information, we still have a lot of prejudices that can complicate intimate life. Sexologist and psychoanalyst Catherine Blanc analyzes one of these popular opinions every month.

“Love — what does it mean for a man? Always be ready to show your feeling with a powerful erection? And if it is not there, then there is no love? Indeed, in modern society it is customary to associate problems in the sexual sphere with a lack of sincere feeling. But in some cases, difficulties with erection can mean just the opposite — too much excitement when meeting with a lover. The reason for the lack of erection may be personal problems of a man, not related to his partner. Meanwhile, do not forget that drugs that support an erection work only when a man has a sexual desire. Put an aquarium with a red fish in front of him and give him at least three tablets of Viagra * — no reaction will follow. Fortunately, the drug does not affect the ability to become aroused (or not aroused) at will, depending on the circumstances. So why should this pill, which helps a man by reducing his anxiety and allowing him to have sexual relations, be considered an inferior quality relationship? Perhaps, here the uncertainty is manifested, which is often inherent in a woman: with the onset of an erection, a man seems to clearly confirm that she is really loved and desired; and if this happens under the influence of a pill, how can one judge his true feelings? However, in fact, the role of Viagra comes down to only one (physiological) aspect: it increases blood flow in the penis, which contributes to its excitation. Everything else depends on the psyche, on the quality of the relationship of partners.

Yes, sex can take place for love … or maybe without it — just one attraction is enough, which Viagra is designed to help. Therefore, sex without her can hardly serve as a complete guarantee of sincere feelings of a partner.
