Luxurious interiors, designer furniture and up-to-date decor ideas from the acclaimed sequel Sex and the City.
Sex and the city dresses
“I changed my favorite clothes with furniture,” says Carrie Bradshaw at the beginning of Sex and the City 2. And all because the new – family – life of the heroine with Mr. Big demanded a new space, in which there will be a place not only for outfits and a laptop, but also for her husband. And Carrie, with her characteristic passion for designer things, plunged into the world of fashionable interiors.
“Carrie is trying to create a new home for two, not just herself,” says Jeremy Conway, production designer for the TV series and both films. That is why, for the last picture, Jeremy, together with decorator Lydia Marks, developed interiors in which “masculine” elements are mixed, such as strict furniture in the style of the middle of the last century and muted colors, with purely “feminine” – like mischievous rugs and bright pillows with plant prints.
- Let’s consider the interiors of the movie “Sex and the City 2” in more detail.
Central to Carrie and Mr. Big’s living room is the Montauk sofa, upholstered in navy blue Donghia wool. Although the dark color perfectly conceals small dirt, Carrie shields the sofa from Mr. Big’s boots with the same zeal as her own wardrobe from the “inventory”.
On both sides of the sofa there are a pair of low armchairs in the style of the 50s of the twentieth century. The Birdie Blossom pillows, designed by Paul Smith for the Rug Company, bring a feminine touch to this rather dry interior. By the way, prints with exotic animals and plants are one of the hottest trends this summer.
Having recognized once and for all the lack of any culinary talents in Carrie, Jeremy Conway decided to make the kitchen not so much functional as spectacular. And he succeeded one hundred percent!
That there is only one transparent blue, like water, tiles from Ann Sacks for Heath Ceramics, which trims the backsplash of the kitchen! And wall cabinets are incomprehensible for a true culinary specialist in white.
In a word, an excellent background for … kisses!
The dining room, with its white cabinets, is a logical extension of the kitchen. A key piece of furniture here is a luxurious oxidized metal disc lamp from Property. It catches the eye and forms a harmonious duo with the 1940s-inspired oval mahogany dining table by Alan Moss. And in addition, this lamp has a color matching with the kitchen cabinets, which are visible in the background. Harmony has been achieved!
For dynamism – contrasting Rococo prints from Lee Jofa on the upholstery of the chairs.
The interior of the bedroom of Carrie and Mr. Big is built on a subtle play of textures and ornaments, which unfolds against the backdrop of a calm and warm beige and chocolate range of “unisex”. The trendy headboard is upholstered in fabric (Kravet). At the same time, the rocaille curls on the headboard echo the pattern on the wallpaper from Cole & Son.
Bed linen, Anichini brand. The use of similar shades and different textures – soft cotton, velvet, shiny satin – creates a cozy depth.
Compared to the chaos of boxes in Carrie’s old apartment, the dressing room in the new house is thought out to the smallest detail.
It is divided into two parts: the right one, where Carrie’s things are kept, and the left one, of Mr. Big, which differ not only in color – white and brown, but also in the shape of the lines. Both parts are made in wood. “I had to work hard both on the design of the dressing room and on its appearance,” says decorator Lidia Marks.
Carrie occasionally delves into the dressing room of her former apartment, which is also featured in the movie Sex and the City 2.
“This is a real treasure chest!” Says Jeremy Conway of hangers and shelves filled with bright and bold outfits from the past. Balancing the interior is a fun floor runner from the Rug Company, whose carpets appear in many of the film’s interiors. “Rug Company carpets are designed by fashion designers,” decorator Lydia Marks comments on her choice. “What could be more appropriate!”
This interior of Carrie’s “girly” apartment has been restored to look the same as in the first movie. However, “over the course of the journey” it has definitely become more luxurious and sophisticated.
The main palette is blue (painted walls), white (table lamp, curtains, paintings on the walls) and a shade of coffee with milk (parquet, carpet in the foreground, banquet by the bed, cocktail table). The last color smoothly flows into pale lilac (bedspread, decorative pillows, carpet by the bed).
Chairs upholstered in tapestry from Wolf Home surround a glamorous mirror table from ABC Carpet & Home.
In Charlotte’s Park Avenue apartment, the kitchen is in the spotlight. Designer Jeremy Conway chose white and a shade of cream as the main colors. They serve as a winning backdrop for the many cupcakes that the unfortunate mother of the family bakes in the frame.
Decorator Lydia Marks added some bold accents – a striped curtain on the window and bright red switches on the stove from Wolf.
The checkerboard pattern on the floor is created using white and gray tiles.
The most modern interior in the film is, of course, Samantha’s office in Manhattan. A minimum of furnishings – a table from Vitra, bright white accessories and a stunning view from the window of Times Square.
“This is Samantha! Says Jeremy Conway. – Giant billboards, flashy advertisements. All this energy is its essence! “
The recreation scenes of the heroines of the movie “Sex and the City 2” in Abu Dhabi were actually filmed in a hotel near Marrakech.
The interiors of the hotel are the epitome of Arabian luxury and charm. Mosaics on the walls, arches and columns, carved furniture, velvet, mirrors, silk and twilight …

“I’ve always wanted to live in a palace,” states Sex and the City author Candace Bushnell ambitiously. – I like gold, crystal candelabra, velvet, oriental carpets, marble … When I did not have my own home, I gladly stayed in the most luxurious hotels in the world. If you dream of living luxuriously, do not be shy about it. After all, our world is a jungle, and modesty has never brought anyone to any good … ”

“Matthew and I didn’t want the environment to be boring, but at the same time, it shouldn’t be overly pretentious or flashy. The main criteria for us are an abundance of light, colors and comfort, comfort, comfort! ” – recalls actress Sarah Jessica Parker. The house on the coast is one of the few places where the actress and her husband, actor Matthew Broderick, could retire and spend time in peace, forgetting about the crazy filming schedules and Broadway rehearsals.
