Sleep in childhood is an important aspect of the full and healthy development of a baby, therefore, due attention should be paid to the environment in which he spends most of the first days. After all, the skin is the main sense organ through which the child begins to communicate with the outside world. And in order to avoid unnecessary irritation to her, you should know the rules for choosing baby bedding.

Knowledge of the peculiarities of sewing bed linen will be useful not only to those parents who decide to sew it for their baby on their own, but also to those who go to the store to buy it. Questions: what size the sheet should be, what material the children’s bedding is made of, what the sleeping set consists of – will disappear by themselves.

There are no established standards in the complete set of children’s bedding textiles. A kit for a newborn in a crib may include: – a sheet; – duvet cover; – pillowcase; – canopy; – side for the crib; – pockets and organizers for small items. Determine how many items should be in your baby’s bedding set, everyone can independently.

The modern children’s textile market includes not only domestic products. The standards in sewing bed linen in each country are different, and therefore there is no need to talk about uniform sizes of a baby kit in a crib. Therefore, an important step when buying or sewing it is to measure the crib accurately. For example, Italian furniture manufacturers make a bed measuring 125 * 65 cm, while their Russian colleagues limit themselves to 120 * 60 cm. Exact observance of these parameters is appropriate if you are going to sew a sheet with an elastic band. By the way, it is this option that is preferable for a newborn, since, due to its high activity during sleep, it is important that the sheet is securely fixed on the mattress.

An ordinary sheet has standard dimensions 110 * 150 cm and will fit any bed, regardless of the country of origin

The size of a pillowcase and duvet cover for a newborn’s bed is usually 40 * 60 and 100 * 140 cm, respectively. But it is worth noting that for children of preschool and primary school age, these parameters will increase. If your plans include sewing a canopy, sides and an organizer for little things, then their sizes need to be determined independently, depending on the child’s crib.

When sewing baby bedding, preference is given to cotton fabrics. Firstly, they are natural, which allows them to perfectly absorb moisture and allow air to pass through well. As a result, the baby will feel cozy and comfortable in the crib. Secondly, the cotton fabric is strong enough and can withstand a large number of washes without damage, which is very important for a child’s bedding.

Of all the variety of cotton material in the production of children’s textiles, I use coarse calico, satin and flannel. Pay attention to the ranfors fabric (a kind of coarse calico) – it is somewhat more expensive than other analogues, but much more practical and durable.

Ranfors has the ability to “adjust” to the room temperature. In winter, it keeps the crib warm, and in summer, it creates a feeling of coolness.

Children’s fabrics often have a bright pattern, which, as a result of washing, can lead to shedding and loss of richness of colors. To avoid this, you should competently approach the choice of the manufacturer. The phrase “the cheaper the better” in this case would be inappropriate.

In addition to the standard instructions for sewing bed linen, when working with children’s textiles, it is worth considering a number of additional rules: – to avoid shrinkage, the fabric should be steamed or simply washed before sewing; – it is more practical to make a hole for a blanket on the short side of the duvet cover and sew a zipper into it; – for the durability of the set, use a linen seam when processing sections; – do not burden bed linen with additional inserts, embroidery, stickers, ruffles; – do not use center seams, in particular on sheets and pillowcases.
