Severe cough in children: how to treat? Video
Cough in children accompanies many diseases of the respiratory tract and is a protective reaction of the body to irritation of the mucous membrane. Irritation can be caused by food, dust, or bacteria.
If a baby has a wet cough, it is important to provide comfortable conditions for his breathing. The air temperature in the room where it is located should not be higher than 22-24 ° С. Do not wrap your child up. If the air in the room is dry, humidify it and ventilate the room regularly.
In the treatment of wet cough in children, pharmacological preparations are used. Among the expectorant drugs that the pediatrician will prescribe for colds and bronchitis, one can distinguish:
- liquorice root,
- plantain leaves,
- Mukaltin
- “Pertusin”,
- “Solutan”.
For pneumonia, the doctor may prescribe mucolytic drugs:
- “Carbocysteine”,
- “Bromhexine”,
- “Meat”,
- “Ambroxol”,
- “ACC”.
For acute respiratory infections and acute respiratory viral infections, combined drugs are prescribed:
- Kodelak Phyto,
- “Dr. IOM.”
A strong dry cough is usually obsessive, painful. If the baby has difficulty clearing his throat, he is prescribed special drugs in the form of syrup or drops to get rid of the cough at the first time of treatment. For the treatment of cough in babies under 6 months old, it is not recommended to use irritating agents.
Treatment will be more effective by combining phlegm-thinning medication with massage. However, for children under the age of six months, rubbing the chest is contraindicated. To prevent sputum from accumulating, you need to change the position of the child’s body as often as possible.
Cough treatment of folk remedies
Children from six months can be given herbal infusions and decoctions one teaspoon each for the treatment of cough, from four to ten years old – one dessert, and from ten years old – one tablespoon three times a day.
A good result in the treatment of cough is given by a drink made from two parts of birch sap and one part of milk with the addition of a small amount of flour or starch.
Treatment with folk remedies is carried out in agreement with the pediatrician. However, various herbal remedies should be treated with caution, as some of them can cause allergies in the child.
If the child is tormented and disturbed by an evening cough, give him a glass of hot boiled water with two drops of iodine added. Onion juice can also help cope with coughs caused by bronchitis, whooping cough, or colds. It is necessary to make gruel from the onion, passing it through a meat grinder, and mix with honey in equal proportions.
Try to treat cough with viburnum. Take a cup of berries and boil in a liter of water for a quarter of an hour. Strain the broth, add two tablespoons of honey to it and give the child two tablespoons 4-5 times a day.
A good expectorant is freshly squeezed cabbage juice mixed in a 1: 1 ratio with sugar syrup.
