A law toughening punishment for pedophiles was adopted on February 7 by the State Duma of the Russian Federation*. For those who have committed a sexual offense against children under 14 years of age, chemical castration is provided **.
Psychologies: Will chemical castration help prevent new atrocities?
S. E .: I think no. Approximately 10% of pedophiles are immune to chemical castration. On the other hand, this is a little-studied method – it is not known how men will behave after such exposure, whether their level of aggression will decrease or increase. Those who are convinced that the main thing is to deprive the offender of the ability to perform sexual intercourse, apparently do not know: most pedophiles do not rape children in the literal sense. They commit depraved acts associated with touching, stroking. The behavior of some is not affected by whether they have an erection.
In this case, how to protect children?
S. E .: The state punishes criminals when the crime has already been committed. And it is important for parents to explain to their children as early as possible that sometimes adults can have bad intentions. Children should be clearly aware of the boundaries of their body, have an idea of what touches are allowed and which are not. And to know how to act if adults demand (offer, persuade …) from them the unlawful. The child must be absolutely sure that in this case the authority of the adult is invalid. And the child has the right to fight back, scream, attract the attention of others, seek help from other adults.
* Pedophilia is a mental disorder or a deviation of sexual behavior that manifests itself in an erotic attraction to children.
** During chemical castration, a drug is introduced into the male body that blocks the action of the male hormone testosterone. The result is a decrease in sexual desire and the inability to have sexual intercourse.
