Septosan – herbal infusion for inflammation in the mouth. Can it be taken while pregnant?

Inflammation of the throat and mouth mucosa is very unpleasant. They make eating and drinking difficult and cause pain when speaking. One of the medical devices designed to treat this type of inflammation is Septosan. It is a mixture of herbs in sachets for brewing and rinsing the mouth.

Septosan Herbapol – indications

Septosan is a herbal preparation in the form of infusion sachets with disinfecting properties. The prepared infusion is recommended for use in the case of chronic and acute inflammation of the oral mucosa, pharyngitis and gingivitis.

Septosan is for topical use only. It is not a drink to drink. Septosan is used as a gargle and mouthwash.

Septosan – composition

Septosan sachets contain a mixture of herbs. The composition includes:

  1. thyme herb – has aseptic and antibacterial properties,
  2. sage leaf – helps with inflammation and supports immunity,
  3. mint leaf – stands out for its antibacterial and antiviral properties, as well as for relieving pain.

Septosan – dosage

use the Septosan mixture from 1 to 5 times a day, depending on the need. It is important to do the treatment for no more than one week. How to prepare the Septosan herbal infusion:

  1. Pour boiling water over 1 sachet – the manufacturer’s recommended amount is ½ glass, i.e. 100 ml – 120 ml,
  2. brew Septosan for about 15 minutes,
  3. rinse the mouth with freshly brewed infusion only,
  4. do not swallow.

Septosan – contraindications

Septosan should be refrained from in case of hypersensitivity to any of the active ingredients in the formula, including menthol or labia plants (now called pale plants). It is worth being cautious when taking other medications before or at the same time. Septosan is an over-the-counter medicine, but it is important that you check with your doctor or pharmacist beforehand.

Consult your doctor also if you are using Septosan during pregnancy, planning pregnancy or breastfeeding. The manufacturer does not recommend rinsing the mouth with infusion by children and adolescents under 18 years of age.

Septosan – side effects

There are no known side effects of Septosan as a rinse aid. However, a doctor should be consulted when a large amount of the mixture is swallowed and the user feels worse.

Septosan – scene

Septosan is available in pharmacies and bleachers. The package contains 20 sachets and costs about PLN 7. There are often questions about the similarity between Septosan and Dentosept. These are medical products with a similar application in the case of inflammation in the throat and mouth. However, Septosan is a mixture of three herbs for brewing and rinsing, and Dentosept is a ready-made preparation for lubricating places where inflammation occurs.
