Septolete and Septolete D – when can it be used? Composition and dosage

Septolete and Septolete D is used in inflammation of the mucous membranes of the mouth and throat, hoarseness and bad breath. The drug contains benzalkonium chloride, which has a disinfectant, antifungal and antibacterial effect. Eucalyptus oil contained in the preparation facilitates expectoration of mucus and improves breathing. The preparation is in the form of lozenges and is dispensed without a prescription.

Septolete i Septolete D to preparaty polecane:

  2. in pharyngitis,
  3. in hoarseness,
  4. in bad breath.

Drug dosage

Septolete and Septolete D are lozenges and should be taken orally. Do not exceed the recommended dose of preparations as it may pose a threat to your life or health. One lozenge should be sucked every 1-2 hours.

  1. adults 6-8 lozenges / d,
  2. children after 4 years of age 4-6 lozenges / d.

Septolete and Septolete D and contraindications

A contraindication to taking Septolete and Septolete D is hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients of the preparation.

Septolete and Septolete D – warnings

  1. Do not swallow or chew the lozenges, keep them in your mouth until they dissolve.
  2. Do not use the drug immediately before or during eating.
  3. It is not recommended to take the preparation in the case of wounds and erosions in the mouth.
  4. A doctor should be consulted if you have severe infections with high fever, headaches and vomiting.
  5. It is not recommended to administer the drug to children under 4 years of age.
  6. The composition of Septolete and Septolete D lozenges is no different, except that the Septolete D lozenges do not contain sugar. Therefore, they have a low energy value and do not damage the teeth. Septolete D (sugar-free lozenges) contain sweeteners – mannitol and maltitol, which prevent the development of tooth decay.
  7. Diabetes should take into account that each lozenge contains about 1 g of maltitol and insulin is needed for its biotransformation.
  8. Maltitol affects blood glucose only slightly due to slow hydrolysis and absorption from the gastrointestinal tract.
  9. The use of high doses of the drug may cause diarrhea, as it contains polyhydric alcohols (mannitol, maltitol).
  10. Pregnant and breastfeeding women should consult a doctor before taking the drug.

Septolete and Septolete D – side effects

During treatment with Septolete and Septolete D, the following may appear:

  1. gastrointestinal disorders in the form of: nausea, diarrhea, especially when using the drug in doses higher than recommended,
  2. very rarely irritation and rash may occur.
